Mother Teresa was simply dreadful.

+1

Mother Teresa was a Catholic who objected to contraception and abortion.

Oddly, I judge her for that, but then I'm pro-choice.

DA. I get tired of hearing how someone is judging someone else. And it's the words "I judge this" (or somesuch) that I seem to have an allergic reaction to. Why can't we just disagree? Why does it always have to be so judgmental? And the more I type the word judge, the weirder it looks. Like some misshapen jug-de or something.

Sorry, the "I judge you" mentality/turn of phrase just irks me, that's all.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-11 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
Because her opinion is actively harmful to other people. That's why just "disagreeing" isn't really an option.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-10 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
She also objected to giving the poor and ill people under her care pain medication or meaningful medical treatment, because their suffering brought them "closer to God." I judge her for that as well as the other thing.

iirc she also said that the poor exist in order to give the more well-off people a "project" basically

I know people who worked in Calcutta and went to see her place, they said it was awful, really poor conditions, the other charities were offering much better care, but didn't get the acclaim and publicity she did.

It doesn't exactly help starving people in third world countries to tell them to have as many kids as possible.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-11 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
As if the "starving people" have to be 'told'. For many poorer communities, children are life insurance, essential labour and social security rollled into one.

Don't assume our choices are best.

the more kids they have, the less resources there are to go around.
