If not, it's certainly nothing new. Fandom is full of people who hate Dean these days. Exactly which ~rapid Dean!girls~ OP is talking about is beyond me; I can't even find five of them that are still active.

YES! What is with the rampant Dean hate these days? Like... I just don't understand what has spurred all of this on. I actually spent a fair amount of season eight being a little irked with Sam's behavior (I just sort of thought the writing for him in the earlier parts of season eight was weirdly shaky and OOC) but Dean...didn't have much to do this season, so I'm not understanding what the hate is about. It really baffles me.

There's really been an uptick in Dean-hate. :( I think it goes back to people watching for a particular character and then getting angry when those around them are ~mean~ to them? And by "mean" here I mean "occasionally is hurt by said character's hurtful actions and dares to hold a grudge for a bit" and/or "doesn't bend over backwards immediately to be as reassuring and affectionate as possible" though even in that second example, practically all Dean did for the second half of the season was walk around being alternatively worried at Sam or Cas, depending on whichever one had been whumped greatest that week.

I agree with the writing for Sam being weird and shaky for the first half of the season. That irked me too. Then the second half of the season irked me for how it spat on previously established canon and made a mockery of itself. The horribly racist undertones with Man's Best Friend or the rageful treatment of Hell in the second trial? UGH.

But man, I don't get why anyone would be hateful at Dean right now unless it's a grudge held over from previous seasons. He didn't do anything this year! What's there to be hateful about?

Where are you hanging out? Dean hate is mild but ongoing on Tumblr and the anonmeme was lousy with it for a while there. Might still be, but I haven't really been following it lately. It's not typically awful stuff, but it'll be on the same level as this secret. It's very flat, negative readings of his character without any nuance or understanding.

Mostly on LJ and i read, of course, on LJ, DW and AO3. None of the Show tumblrs i follow have any Dean hate in them, but i'll readily admit i don't follow a *lot* of tumblrs. These are the Show ones:

I've never understood the 'misogynist!!' thing about Dean. Calling a demon that wants to kill you/your brother/your father/everyone you know a 'bitch' doesn't mean he hates women. Wth.

Maybe the person posting that weird post about John repeatedly burying Dean alive and forcing him to dig his way out? It was quoted in the comments to that secret about why-does-everyone-hate-John-Winchester.

I think it was also mentioned in that discussion that tumblr Dean fans are particularly anti-John. So there are apparently tumblr Dean fans.

I actually was the one who shared that post about John burying Dean alive, weirdly enough! But seriously, there's four Dean!girls I follow on Tumblr and I can't think of a single Dean!girl on LJ who is still active. Of the four Tumblr Dean!girls, three seem to have a violent hatred for John. The other likes him okay but is more interested in other various bearded men that Dean can interact with.

But I really, really doubt that it was a John!girl who made this post. John fans are even deader than Dean fans. I know of some people who like JDM quite a bit but not really any John fans.

I made that post originally because I was frustrated by John bashing since I'm someone who loves Dean and John both. The general silence on the Dean side of fandom is bad enough; it's even more frustrating that the very few people who are still active mostly hate one of my other favorite characters on the show.

John really did fuck Dean over, though. He wasn't *trying* to. But he did.

I really, really don't think he buried Dean alive though. For one, I don't think it's something John would assume Dean *needed* to know.

I think John's problem is that he had a "this is war" view of the world, where they had to do everything possible to train and survive and win, and that's how he treated his sons.

I really want to know when John found out Sam was actually sorta supernatural himself (don't have a better way to word that...) because *before* that his actions don't make a ton of sense - most people go their whole lives without supernatural incidents, so obviously they weren't constantly under threat - or at least they wouldn't be in he didn't put them in dangerous situations.

A large chunk of his problem is his refusal to communicate with his sons, even when they're adult. He couldn't have picked up the phone? He couldn't have told Sam why he didn't want him to leave for Stanford? I get protecting them as far as possible while they were young; I don't get not sitting them down and having The Talk at some point.
