That sounds a lot like a certain BNF I share two fandoms with. Because of her aura of perfectness, it is hard to explain why I hate her. She stalked and molested another fan years ago, and for the sake of the other person's privacy, I can't explain to everyone why I think she's a complete shitbag, I just have to loathe her in silence. (Probably not the same person as yours; she's made a few other slips over the years, enough that I can make most people understand why I think she's not the perfect flower she's made out to be).

Yeah. I seriously agonise about it. The victim doesn't want to talk about it, understandably (I found out from a really good friend of theirs). As everyone thinks the BNF is SO perfect and morally upright, I do think there's a serious risk of it backfiring into people slamming the victim if she ever did come forward.

The ONLY reason I'm not convinced the secret is about this particular BNF is because the BNF HAS slipped up a few times and said something creepy enough to get her slammed by fandom_wank or whatever. All but one of those slip-ups were a very long time ago, so it could be that it is the same person and OP doesn't know about them. Either way, I'm uneasy at all the assumptions that OP is just a bad person for smelling an insincere rat about the BNF? There could well be some kind of underlying red flag there, whoever they're talking about.

This doesn't sound comparable to me though, OP of this secret seems convinced this person is horrible for no other reason then "Well, other people are horrible."

You actually have a legitimate reason to dislike the BNF you share fandoms with. There is a big difference between knowing something is bad about a person and just believing it. OP is way way way way in the wrong here and your situation does not relate at all.
