I'm glad to hear your cat is doing better. Mine has urinary tract issues as well, and had a blockage several years ago that prompted a trip to the emergency vet that I'm still paying off, but he's fine most of the time. Unfortunately, after a series of urinary tract infections, he seems to have gotten out of the habit of peeing in the litterbox entirely; we've started putting puppy-training pads in his favorite corners. (He still poops in the litterbox, though.) So keep an eye on your cat, but he might have just started associating his litterbox with hurting when he pees, and so goes elsewhere instead, which might need some re-training (which, if you figure out how, please let me know!)

Good luck to both you and the kitty!

The associating the litterbox with bad things is what I was worried about. (I had bought a new litterbox and a new kind of litter to hopefully lessen the association.) It appears the peeing was because he was still groggy and out of it from the surger, as he has since peed three more times in the litterbox. It doesn't help my poor bed, but at least it doesn't seem like I will have the issues you are having, fortunately. The litter I bought was one for problem cats that have issues using the litterbox and came with a pamphlet of things to try. Maybe you have something like that in your area? As I would hate to be in your situation. (And am crossing my fingers that I am not.) I'd look up the brand name, but I'm at work and it is obviously at home. I could look it up later if you want? Good luck!

I'm glad it seems like the anesthesia was the cause, and that your cat isn't becoming litterbox-averse. We changed our cat's box when we noticed he was peeing elsewhere, but we haven't switched litter, so maybe the stuff you're using might help, especially if it comes with suggestions. If you get the chance later, I'd be grateful for the recommendation.

It's called Dr. Elsey's Cat Attract. There's a whole line of stuff. It's through "Precious Cat", apparently, based on the booklet. www.preciouscat.com or Toll Free 877-311-CATS

Here are some testimonials, including someone who was using puppy pads, as you are... http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2751734

Thanks! I'll check it out; hopefully it'll help.

One of mine has a tendency towards UTIs as well, so the vet recommended a specially formulated food called Royal Canin Urinary S/O. It's incredibly expensive but since swapping my cat to it, he's been okay. ::touches wood::

I'm in the UK, and I don't know where you are, but maybe there's something similar available?

I hope your cat is okay.

Yeah, my cat's on prescription food from the vet too, and we have to mix a medication into his food to help discourage crystal formation, but so far, so good. Thanks for the good thoughts :)
