There's this game, and in this game there's this challenge. Everyone's talking about how hard X or Y part is, which is all well and good...I can't even beat the first part. And there are twelve parts.

I shouldn't have tried in the first place. People were talking about how hard it is, and other people's "hard" is my "impossible". I should have expected this, and not taken that hit to my self-worth.

Fuck I hate it when I try so hard to line the lines up and then they don't line up and I can't even edit it. >_< Preview doesn't help because for some reason the actual comments section is a different width...

So what game?

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2013-08-11 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh...what is the game? Because I think I am pretty good at games but I can't play the Wii to save my life. I just flail and hope I don't fall off something. I have been stuck on level 16 of this one game I have been playing for months. Some games are not just right for you.

I've been stuck on Ornstein and Smough in Dark Souls for months. I may never get past them.

Mine is just some silly online game. That I can't even find anymore. :( I forgot the name.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-11 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
maybe it's just not your genre

if you have the time, just keep at it

you're bound to get better with practice and trial and error

(Anonymous) 2013-08-11 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I was like this for so long in parts of MGRR and Devil May Cry 3 and occasionally in other games. Not that I've played much of Dark Souls, but it IS one f the hardest games out there... So don't feel bad.

Are you going to keep trying or save yourself the frustration?
dethtoll: (Default)

[personal profile] dethtoll 2013-08-11 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Interesting that you mention MGRR because that's the one DMC clone I've not had any problem with at all. It seems very friendly to people like me who usually play FPS games and RPGs.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-11 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I only had trouble with it in my first run, and mostly against Sam and Armstrong. I've talked about it a lot on here. After that the game's been pretty easy once I got better at things like oh, parrying... Hell, I'm on Revengeance mode right now...

I don't play a lot of shooters anymore either.

I was always terrible at DMC. I did better in both Bayonetta and MGR than DMC. Which saddens me because Dante is gorgeous and I want more Dante, but I could never beat those games on my own.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-12 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
DMC3 is legit the hardest normal mode I have EVER played. And you know of my MGRR troubles... I think DMC3 was still tougher, LOL. I had help with DMC1 so I got lucky.

I feel your pain! In both cases, that is - I wanted more Dante and Raiden which in part kept me playing. ;)

[personal profile] elaminator 2013-08-12 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
God, I can't even remember DMC3. I don't think I got very far. Back then I didn't have the patience for that genre of games. I did like Dante, but I gave up fairly easily. Sometimes I want to go back and try again but I'm afraid of failing horribly.

DMC3 is legit the hardest normal mode I have EVER played.

So glad to hear you say that, haha. At least it isn't only me!

It's frustrating but it happens. I still haven't went back to Mirror's Edge because there's a particular billboard that I can't hit right. Seriously, a damn billboard is keeping me from completing this game. It's this section where you have people after you so I try to ignore them and run up the board, but someone always seems to get in my way and fuck up my momentum and arg, I hate it.

Yea, you're okay anon. All games aren't for all people.

I can relate. I've been stuck at Thorny Towers in Psychonauts for ages because there's this one damn rolling jump in Fred Bonaparte's level that I just can't seem to make- and if that weren't bad enough, it's part of a fairly long platforming sequence and so every time I fail I have to start over at the beginning of the jumps.

[personal profile] elaminator 2013-08-12 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Man, FPS games are so much easier...

This reminds me of a particular Portal room! I hate anything where you have to retry large platforming sections. I freak myself out thinking about screwing up and probably only make it worse.

Trial and error is really the only answer, and it's an unsatisfactory one.

(Did you look up a walkthrough? Sometimes those can help a bit, even when you know what you need to do.)
feathercircle: Cartoonish octopus with animated sparkles. Text: Silly biped... (humans are amusing)

[personal profile] feathercircle 2013-08-12 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
Yes- and youtube videos. I know exactly what to do, I just can never seem to get the timing as close as it needs me to. If I could just shortcut back to that one jump or even somewhere near it, I wouldn't mind so much, but having to do all that platforming over and over to get back to it is just woefully tedious.

Then again, if I'm having this much trouble here I don't know that I'd ever be able to beat the final level- I've heard horror stories about that one from people who are better at these kinds of games than I am.

I know -precisely- which part of the platforming sequence you're referring to, and it was one of my proudest gaming moments when I finally cleared it. Good luck on your jumps in the future!

Shit, I'm stuck at Thorny Towers too.

I'm passed that part somehow, but it still took forever because Bonaparte land is the most boring thing. Have you done the Bull land? It's the best.

Though I'm now having to climb Thorny Towers and ugh. Psychonauts has great level design, but it could be a little better here. So many "WHERE THE FUCK DO I GO" moments.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-12 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
I have been stuck at the same spot in the original Portal for about two years now. I know exactly what I'm supposed to do, I just cannot get the timing down.
elaminator: (Portal 2 - Don't listen to your future s)

[personal profile] elaminator 2013-08-12 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
Urg, timing can be the absolute worst. :( There's often no way to bypass it, you just have to get it right.

Portal is bad about that. I didn't have too much difficulty with them, but there were areas where the timing was very tricky.

Is the part you're stuck at the end of this video? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X38qm9pO9B8 Because if it is, you don't have to have perfect timing, or go through all those portals right after the other. What I did (which felt like cheating, but whatever, I couldn't get the timing right either) was abuse the fall at the start of the room to get out of there. (Basically go back to the beginning and do the fall for each platform. There's still some timing involved but you can save on each platform, so it's easier.)

And I probably explained that in a way no one is going to understand. Oh well...maybe that wasn't even your issue.

there's a part in mirrors edge where you have to wall run to this crate dangling in the sky from a crane and it took me 2 days to get it bc i ragequit the first night. i kept missing the crate by inches and falling to my death. i love mirrors edge but a couple of parts can be infuriating tbh.
elaminator: (Mass Effect: Shep)

[personal profile] elaminator 2013-08-12 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh god, I think I remember that part. There's a part where you need to jump to a zip line from a crane too (I think) and fuck if I didn't die a lot there. Mirror's Edge is gorgeous and fun, but at least for me there was lots of dying inbetween. Like ridiculous amounts of dying. And I have no idea how I got past some of the bigger fight scenes; mostly just determination and refusal to quit. I'll try again... Eventually.

Maybe you can look at other people play it on youtube to figure out how to beat it?

Or if you really want maybe there are advantageous glitches? Or cheats?

Either way, good luck. Don't let losing get you down.

Ugh, I sympathise. I'm, well, honestly pretty terrible at playing video games, so I tend not to do the challenges. No Thunder Dragon's Challenge in Skyward Sword (which means no Hylian Shield ;_; ), no Cave of Ordeals in Twilight Princess, no Battle Tower/Subway/whatever in the various Pokemon games... hell, I even still play Spider Solitaire on easy mode.
