Maybe it's because it's inspired by a song by a band everyone loves to hate?

Or maybe OP is very young and is still unsure of themselves.

And, hey. I've been published (by other people, even, because screw self-pubbing; it's a lot of trouble if you want it to actually look good) several times and I still have Imposter Syndrome.

I'm a published writer too and can feel like an imposter sometimes myself. I guess I just can't wrap my head around it because of how far removed from the source of inspiration it is. (And I guess my reaction to people liking my stuff that's based off a song everyone hates would just make me laugh.)

I guess this is just one of those things I'm not gonna get. Sometimes that happens to me. I just gotta accept they feel that way and move on from there even if I don't get the reasoning.

Mmm, if OP is still reading all this, I hope you get past it and not feel guilty for something that isn't remotely like simply filing off the serial numbers. And even if it was? If you've done a good enough job at separating it from its inspiration than it's no one's business but yours. You haven't plagiarized and that's what matters. People get inspiration from a lot of places. Don't feel bad. Enjoy what you've got and how far you've already come.
