It seems to me that (maybe to help the Hallyu wave?) Korean companies are WAY more willing to have their shows stream in different regions. I can jump on Hulu right now and have hundreds of Kdrama options. I'm not sure if Japanese media companies are even trying to do this. Maybe Johnny's Entertainment the problem (since they seem to have a finger in every pie), or is it just the way rights are done in Japan?

Nah, it's not only Johnny's. Regardless whether there's a Johnny's or not in it, Japanese dramas and movies are so much harder to get than Korean ones.

When it comes to music, recently some labels and management like Avex already became more lax by uploading their artists' PVs on their official Youtube channel, but still it's not enough compared to the gungho promotions of Korean medias (which is even backed by their government).
