Yeaaaahhhh prob should have been a spoiler warning, afaik.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-12 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Is it a spoiler though? We found out way back in season 3.

Did we? I thought we found out at the beginning of the Netflix season. My arrested development knowledge is fuzzy...

I'm not sure a spoiler warning is necessary so many years after it's aired. It's not like that was from the new season on Netflix. It's been more than 5 years.

this was quite a while ago. I think the statute of limitations for spoilers with this one is expired

It didn't kill it for me, but I agree that it kind of put a damper on things for me regarding the family dynamic, especially the Lindsay/Micheal relationship.

I thought it made sense, given some of the comments in the earlier seasons (Lucille remarking how she always wanted a blonde daughter; adoptive children can be just as valued, of course, but Lucille never valued her imo). It didn't make Lindsay any less of a Bluth in my eyes. I'm just glad they didn't use it as an excuse to justify George Michael/Maeby.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-13 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
It's good to know that my familial relationships will always be lesser in the eyes of some simply because I was adopted. It's also good to know that being adopted is a Terrible Thing that inspires people to shout WHAT WHAT WHAT.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-13 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty sure they were saying that because they didn't know and it was a surprise to them, not that they think adopted kids are less than other kids.

Lucille treated all of her kids shitty, not just Lindsay.

AYRT

My first line was specifically in reference to the secret. The fact that Lindsay's adoption threw the whole show off for the OP makes it seems like s/he thinks that adoption removes a person from family dynamics. But, as you said, Lucille treated all of her kids shitty; her personality is the deciding factor, not the origin of her daughter.

That is a good point about my second line, and I think I was just upset and so seeing things through a filter. I've also now considered that OP may have felt the writers were trying to justify and explain Lucille's behavior through the adoption revelation, so I may have just read this wrong altogether.

I've just gotten so much shit over my life for being adopted that it's easy to get my hackles up. I love my adoptive parents, and they love me, and I've never had any reason to doubt that. But so many people seem to think that that's impossible, and they'e had no qualms about telling me so.

Sorry, I didn't mean it as being a bad thing. Like anon said up there, I was just surprised because it's been a while since I've seen the series. Also sorry for all the shit you've gotten.

spoilers for Arrested Development

spoilers for Arrested Development

[Picture is Lindsay Bluth Fünke from the TV/Internet show "Arrested Development". She is a woman with light skin and blonde hair reaching her shoulders. She is wearing a green sleeveless blouse or dress and is smiling at someone who is mostly out of the screen.]

I hate that Lindsay turned out to be adopted. It threw the whole show off for me.

The first reveal of it probably wasn't my favorite, but I think in season 4 they did a good job of showing that Lindsay is still very much a Bluth and George Michael and Maebe are still cousins. That stuff doesn't get thrown out the door because someone is adopted.

I SERIOUSLY THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY PERSON IN THE WORLD WHO FELT THIS WAY.

Arrested Development isn't the most realistic show ever. That's part of the point. But it generally at least stayed true to its own canon, and WE SAW FLASHBACKS OF LINDSAY AND MICHAEL AS KIDS PLENTY OF TIMEA, AND SHE DID NOT LOOK THREE YEARS OLDER. Also Michael is not a moron, and Gob would have been old enough to remember the whole thing, and basically it MAKES NO SENSE.

The whole development was clearly pulled out of the writer's asses, it doesn't really make the story any better, and I haaaaaaate it. Seriously, all that for a throwaway joke about Michael not liking older women? I'm getting pissy again just thinking about it.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-13 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
There were some parts that made sense to me - the whole "Wait, Aunt Lindsay's not my real aunt?" question, the recurring little stuff like that.

However, yeah, she didn't look older and girls hit growth spurts usually before boys and stuff.

GOB's kind of oblivious to everything, but yeah, I agree with your points. I was kind of annoyed with that storyline.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-13 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
I would have been fine with her being adopted as the payoff to all the running jokes about Maeby and George Michael and such -- if they hadn't thrown in she was three years older. As it happens, I'm three years older than my brother, and not only were we developmentally on different planets for much of our childhood, I was a head taller than him until high school. (He is now 6'1". I am not.) No one would have *ever* believed we were twins.

I suppose you can handwave some of it by saying they didn't spend a lot of time around other children, and you're right that Gob wouldn't have cared -- but, seriously, that's a long way to go for a dumb joke.

I don't know why I get so stuck on the point, but there it is.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-13 06:43 am (UTC)(link)
I always say Gob as being a lot more perceptive than people give him credit for. He's egotistical and self=centered, but I doubt he would have forgotten that his little brother's twin sister is really his older(?) adopted sister? Presumably Gob was old enough to remember when Lindsay first came into the family. I don't know, the whole adopted story line didn't seem to have much thought put into it anyway.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-13 07:45 am (UTC)(link)
I thought the whole point of the show is that she's as Bluth as a Bluth can get, regardless of her biological parents.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-13 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
It's really disturbing, but I was more into Lindsay/Michael when I thought they were biologically related. When the adopted twist came out and Lindsay jumped on Michael 2 seconds later it just killed it for me.

I don't get myself. lol.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-13 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
don't worry. i've been shipping michael and gob, and want them to have sort of fucked up relationship with daddy-issues and gob fucking michael for validation that someone loves him.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-13 02:35 pm (UTC)(link)
...and now I ship it. Thanks, anon.

(nothing can beat myGOB/TonyWonder OTP though!)

(Anonymous) 2013-08-13 02:42 pm (UTC)(link)
It didn't kill the show for me or anything, but it wasn't my favourite plot point ever :/ plus the Lindsay/Michael & GOB/Lindsay jokes were pretty squicky (although very in keeping with the show, considering George Michael/Maebe, which somehow the show has got me shipping... idek.)
