I know, especially since there are dozens of legitimate claims you can bring against that idiot Anita Sarkeesian.

Anita Sarkeesian is absolutely the wrong voice to be shedding light on sexism in video games. Her videos are under-researched, dry, lacking in insight, and very often will exclude pertinent counter-examples to remain on-message.

It's too bad that most opposition to Sarkeesian is rooted in misogynist trolling, because it means that legitimate criticisms are usually dismissed.

Plus it has been proven she stole many of the clips she shows in her videos from Let's Plays. Which means she probably didn't even play any of the games she is talking about. It is like she just went to the TVTropes page on Damsel in Distress as her main source.

It's more so their counter argument that annoys me. It's like how some people claim racism is over and done with just because our president and Spider Man are African American. Mm, no.

Yes. And what's worse, to me, is it means someone else who is better at bringing light to those issues will be dismissed even more easily. =/

Care to synopsize me?

Feminist makes videos on women in video games. Her current videos are about the 'Damsel In Distress' trope. Doug Walker (The Nostalgia Critic) links to one and says she doesn't really have a point, because (long list of female video game characters). Guys get upset and start throwing around "She needs a good dicking!" "UGH who cares about representation?! Just play the game! WHO CARES!" and "She's a feminist, so she hates men. Feminists are evil man hating monsters who want to take our ice cream!" "Nu-uh, cause Lara Croft!!1" in the comments.

She may not be that great at explaining the issues, but when the rebuttals are all sexist in nature, and dripping with such vitriol, you have to wonder...Why do guys get so upset when women start talking about representation?

I think they get mad at a moron who conned people out of 150,000 dollars to give high school level criticism of a topic while presenting it as intelligent.

*I do not condone any violent talk, but this is the reason I think she is a joke that should just stop making videos. There are plenty of intelligent people who can create better, more researched videos.

Not gonna lie, while she may have been the best choice, I'm actually more bothered by the fact that Walker said ' I believe it is better to celebrate women for their accomplishments rather than waving one's finger saying "they're not enough."'

Because, apparently, that's better than pointing out issues.

Yeeah, I'm more bothered by what he said [and what he obviously ignored about that project] than anything - but I'll admit I'm not even bothering with the comments since, as sad as it is, it's a facebook note about feminism and gaming. It's kind of obvious what's going to be in the comments.

He literally makes his living off saying THIS VIDEO YOU LIKE IS STUPID, LOL

To a degree, seeing as he isn't 'in character' there - and when he's not being the character he's usually pretty good about giving intelligent responses to stuff.

I'm not saying I expected him to be completely awesome about it - but not this bad.

One can walk and chew gum. Likewise, I can suggest that the industry has a bias overall and point out examples of the games I want to see more of.

Oh, the comments are very cringeworthy.

But if I wrote a women's history paper using Sarkeesian's methods I'd be torn down immediately, because her methods just aren't that good. She skips over things you really can't skip over. I'd be torn down by fellow women's historians.

It'd be like me saying American women writers were often discounted during the nineteenth century (true) and then saying incredibly influential writer Harriet Beecher Stowe doesn't count for some reason (utter bullshit).

You're allowed to criticize a fellow feminist, you know. Criticism isn't automatically bad.

This is aside from the fact that came out recently that she apparently used someone else's Let's Play video footage. I realize she never asked for that much kickstarter money, but if you have it, use it. You have the resources to make your own little video. I'm not allowed to comment on books I haven't at least familiarized myself with. She doesn't have to play entire games but she can play them a bit.

I think the issue is that Doug-and a lot of the commenters- are trying to say that sexism/representation for women in video games is a moot, and used her as some sort of evidence for completely shutting down any discussion on the topic. (Doug says "Why are you only focusing on the negative)

I've seen that sort of shit so much that I am just not even going to read it...especially since they do not utilize Facebook's direct reply feature so I'd just get red-in-the-fact-mad without being able to say anything back.

The post didn't seem all that bad, even if I didn't agree entirely. But a handful of the comments already made me wince so...nope nope nope not tonight

The problem with the post, imo, has more to do with the fact he's using her as a way to shut down discussion and his thing about 'You should be celebrating how far things have come, not saying it's not enough!' since, again to me, that comes off very much like 'It's no longer a problem!'

Did he delete the bad comments? (Can you delete comments on facebook?) Cause maybe I just hang around bad places but I've sen far worse than those. Most of those seem rather tame.

Granted I'm not reading over 400 comments.
