Your first technical fandom

(Anonymous) 2013-08-12 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
What was technically - or absolutely - your first fandom experience?

Mine was The Baby-Sitter's Club when I was eight. I came up with all these plotlines the next book could have and write them down or play the books out with toys, and my friends and I would always discuss the books for hours. Good nerdy times.

Anyone else?

Redwall.

It still is the only thing I've written multiple fanfictions for.

Dragon Ball Z fanfiction. *nods* I still got some fics saved for nostalgia.

David Eddings' Elenium or Tamuli, I think. I made up fan characters and imagined my own stories in those worlds, though I never wrote any of them down. I was... seven?... or so. After that, Power Rangers.

My first fanfic was for BSSM.

Uhhhh. I want to say Chrono Trigger. I tried writing a fic... you never find out what happened to Queen Zeal ingame and I wrote something but didn't get past a page before I realized I had no idea where I was going with my plot. LOL

Probably Pokemon? I made up headcanons for stuff long before that but Pokemon was the first thing I found an online community for, and read fic for.

I was really into beyblades back then and joined forums to talk about beyblades and shit. Then one say someone linked their TyKa fanatic and at first I was disgusted but I became curious and next thing you know I found myself reading gay smut at the tender age of 13 and downloading doujins/going around those webrings

Naruto- I read the forums with the different OTP fanclubs, looked at fanart, and wrote self insert fic.

Lion King? or Balto maybe?

Inuyasha. And I had no idea what people meant by "lemon." I saw "lemon" in the summary for a fic on ao3 and didn't know whether to laugh or be annoyed.

Hey, the BSC fandom's still active, y'know ;)

I'd have to say the Silmarillion. I wasn't a very fannish kid, so it was only when I discovered online fandom that I got a fandom.

I was a fan of a lot of things before I realized I could share this with other people, especially online since my family couldn't really afford internet for quite a bit of my childhood.

My first real fandom experience was Kingdom Hearts in middle school. It was nice. All my friends liked it, and some were in online fandom and introduced me to it.

The first thing I actively discussed online was Zoo Tycoon. c: Pokemon seemed so entrenched in my life at 9 years of age(practically hivemind with my peers and I) that I've never considered it 'fandom', exactly, but I suppose it would be the first!

My first geeky activity was playing Pokémon Red as a 9-year-old. My first actual fandom was YGO about four years ago.

The X-Files.

I look back now, and I'm kind of horrified that my parents let me watch it, since it started when I was 7 (and shit yeah, I watched from day one!). But boy, am I glad they did.

For years, every time I started to get into a new show, I'd tell myself, "this is my new X-Files." That's how deeply I was into it: it was the rubric by which all TV was measured.

Ah. The memories.

Star Trek: TNG, writing terrible shippy fic in a school copybook and not knowing it was a thing other people did. (I still remember the surprise the first time I Googled Alta Vista-ed my OTP's names and discovered other people writing stories).

Doug. In second grade I drew a self-insert "Quailgirl" comic. I think my mom still has it.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I wrote my first fanfic with markers on construction paper and stapled it together to make a little book. I used to take my Turtles action figures with me everywhere and in particular when my family went to visit my grandma I had this whole specific storyline that I loved and had to play out every time (usually slightly adjusted depending on whether I was playing with them inside or outside).

I don't count imagining and writing stories by myself, or roleplaying with friends as kids. So I guess my first fandom experience was writing collaborative slash fic with my classmates about rockstars (during class) and finding X-Men comics fanfic online (can't remember which happened first).

Not sure if Harry Potter or Danny Phantom happened first, but definitely those two were around the same time. My OTP was Hermione/Snape from the age of 11/12 onward.
