My biggest fear is dying before I move out and my parents going through all my stuff and discovering all my porny fanart and fanfiction. Even if I did move out I don't have anyone else to collect my belongings.

It's not like I'd even be alive to be embarrassed by it, but I don't want that to be their memory of me.

As someone who had to go through their late great-uncle's belongings and therefore found the rape porno he wrote, I concur. I didn't know him all that well to begin with, and now it's the first thing I think of.

I just hope my mother doesn't compile everything I've written and try to get it published. I don't think she would, but she knows it's my life goal and the grief might make her irrational. My notebooks contain a lot of decent but incomplete ideas, dark angry rants, and horrible porn. I don't want her to go through that embarrassment.

I have a friend who says everyone needs to make sure they designate a "cleaner" among their friends. If something happens to you, your "cleaner" gets rid of all the stuff you don't want your parents/significant others/whomever to see.

Unless you really, really, REALLY are good at hiding your power level, your parents will know you're nerdy. Porny fanfiction and fanart aren't really that new, either.

What I'm saying is that I'm sure your parents love you and that this won't be their memory of you. Hell, they might just find it funny.

I really doubt that, if you die, the thing they worry most about will be their dead child's porn collection. It will be that their dead child is dead.

Yeaaa, I think about that sometimes. Thankfully my parents are hopeless when it comes to electronics, especially computers, so they wouldn't be able to find all the naughty bits even if they felt so inclined to look through my stuff. And the only other person who would think of going through my computer files would be my brother, and he probably (hopefully) wouldn't bother.

Eh, if he did bother he would be eternally scarred and tbh that amuses me more than it saddens me.

When I did an internship overseas, my mother went through my room and found my porn. Apparently she flipped her shit about it, but my dad simply responded "you know your daughter's an adult, right?".

My gf has a few poems and stories published. She burns all her notebooks when she fills them up so no-one can ever read or publish her stories after she dies. But she's let me read all the stories she's written since we got together. I miss some of those notebooks...

I have a pact with one of my irl fandom friends for this very reason. Our password clues are both fandom related things that only we'd get, and he have sworn to wipe each other's files should something happen to one of us.

When my brother moved out, he left behind a lot of his stuff... including his porn stash we weren't aware of. My parents found it when they were cleaning out his room (my brother gave them his permission to clean out his room. I assume he forgot about his stash). My dad taped up all the pictures he had printed off the internet in a stack with the first page flipped over so you couldn't see it and then put it in a random dumpster on his route to work.

It really wasn't a big deal. It was a bit embarrassing to have to get rid of it, but we didn't think any less of him for it. Porn is just a part of life really. I don't have a porn stash so I don't share your concerns, but I think if something were to happen to you and your parents found it, it wouldn't destroy their image of you.

A lot of people like sex and yes, most of us keep that part of ourselves relatively private. And while it can be uncomfortable to think of your kid as a sexual being, most people won't be shocked. If you really think a porn stash they found after your death is going to be one of the most prominent things they remember about you, then, I don't know, find a friend you trust to get rid of it when you die.

When I was a teenager, I found some erotic books that my dad had. You know what I did? I read them. And, one day, when he dies (hopefully, a long, long time from now), they'll very, very far down the list of things that I remember about him.

All my fic is in password-locked documents and any squicky doujinshi or art is in password-locked rar files. There might be a few stray mild m/m pieces out there, but all the rest is sufficiently hidden given my relative's level of technological prowess.

Now, what really haunts me is all the notebooks my teenaged self accidentally left behind after a move. I hope the new tenant trashed them without reading them...

I'm lucky in that I know for a fact my mother has done far more scandalous things than I ever have, so a little bit of porn definitely wouldn't bother her. In fact, I'm almost positive she knows I wrote it, even though I never explicitly said so. But still, if you're truly that uncomfortable, I agree with getting passwords and a trusted friend.
