Personally I like the original ending that was planned, with Pinhead showing up and saying "Now gentlemen what seems to be the problem?"

THIS! I actually choose to believe that's the real ending. Even if they couldn't get the rights and obviously couldn't film it, that's my total headcanon for the ending.

Then you completely missed the point. The movie ended with Jason carrying Freddy's VERY MUCH ALIVE head away , showing that the two had set aside their differences and could kill sexy teenagers together. At its heart, Freddy vs. Jason is about friendship. By being unable to reconcile your differences with your friends, you've proven that you can't survive the night.

I love you just for actually remembering enough of the plot to make this astute comment.

You've lost friends over this?? Dude, Freddy winks at the end. He's still there. So Jason didn't technically win.

There was no doubt that Jason would win because the filmmakers clearly saw Jason as a misunderstood woobie while Freddy was the more "evil" out of the two.

I've friends arguing over who really won in the end. And I don't regret it. I take Jason Voorhees very seriously. Seriously, most of my friends know me well enough to know how I feel about the characters, and they just don't argue about it. We all know Jason won.

I have no trouble believing there's one person passionate enough about this to break friendships, but I'm surprised there are -- apparently -- more than one, since OP seems to imply the friendships have ended with both people actively pursuing the debate. I want a fic of Jason and Leatherface being well, how do I put this, not so smart friends? They can just sit there in silence. It'd be awesome.

simple way to prove that freddy won - let's say freddy lost, well, then there'd be another jason movie chronicling his murders. there isn't. therefore freddy killed him in his dreams (he was close to doing it anyway when the bitch got the fuck in the way). thus there could be no jason movie but there was another freddy movie after fvj. so freddy wins. sorry bro. better luck next time.

Since I have seriously questioned friendships with people who prefer the remakes of Friday the 13th, Hellraiser, and A Nightmare on Elm Street I guess I can't say much.
