I feel the same way tbh. It's just not the same

(Anonymous) 2013-08-15 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
It's coming back? Cool!

I started with the British version and probably saw more of that (because it was on Comedy Central all the time) than the later one with Drew, so him not being there doesn't bug me.

It came back in July. :) I like it, except the whole "Bring on guest stars from popular shows" bit throws me off. The kid from Glee was okay, but Candice Accola and Lauren Cohan were sort of iffy.

[Picture is four screen-captures of the TV show "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" (US version). It shows the cast of the show joking and horsing around for the sketches. They are Drew Carey, a man with light skin, short brown hair and eyeglasses wearing a black suit, a man with with dark skin and wearing a red shirt and black pants in two pictures and a long-sleeved blue shirt in another; a man with like skin and a slightly balding head with short brown hair, wearing a Hawaiian blue shirt in one screen-capture, a long-sleeved shirt in another, a blue shirt in another and an orange Hawaiian shirt in the last, a man with short curly brown hair and light skin wearing a green shirt and brown pants in one picture, a green polo shirt and khaki pants in another and an orange tartan shirt and green pants for another. Finally is a man with short spiky brown hair and eyeglasses with light skin. He is wearing black pants and a black vest over a yellow shirt in one picture, and dark pants and a white shirt in another picture.]

I was excited for the show to return but I can't watch it without Drew.

Secret because: Everyone else seems to have no problem and I don't want to admit that I'm the only one not watching.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-15 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Drew wasn't my first host, so I didn't mind it without him, but I can totally understand.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-15 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I watched the British version first, so that's probably why I don't mind his absence. Plus I really love Aisha Tyler! I have to admit though, that the celebrity guest bit is always a bit off-putting. It just smacks of trying too hard to be super current and *appeal* to *demographics*. Nothing wrong with that per se, but it just kinda throws me.
And the fact tha Colin just feels really... old. That kinda detracts from the enjoyment too, but I hope I'll get used to him.

I had no idea this came back.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-15 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
My problem isn't that it doesn't have Drew (I'd prefer if it did, obviously...), but that I find the new host insufferable. I find her laughing loudly at all the scenes really grating - can't they turn her mic down when that's happening. And they keep cutting to her to show her laughing? Idk, it feels like she's more of an audience member than one of the crew, and it just grates for me.

My mom and I used to watch the Drew version a lot when I was younger. I was actually excited when I heard that it was not only coming back but Aisha Tyler (someone who I find hilarious - have you ever seen her comedy stand-ups or when she does the E3 coverage? She's awesome and funny as hell imo) would host it.

My mom, on the other hand, felt like you OP. And then she watched it anyway and she loves it. Drew was just the host, the real hilarity was tied to Wayne, Ryan, and Colin (even the chicks that played the music are back!) and with them back, it's almost like nothing ever changed. If anything, the show is even MORE hilarious now! xD

(Anonymous) 2013-08-16 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
I don't mind the host but god damn I can't stand the celebrity guests. They give me really bad second hand embarrassment.

Drew Carey who?

(Anonymous) 2013-08-16 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
I like the show and I don't even mind the celebrity guests much (mostly because I kind of think they tend to do a better job of playing along than obviously-embarrassed-to-be-on-stage audience members and I always felt secondhand embarrassment for them when I watch the earlier Whose Line).

But while Aisha Tyler seems cool? I cannot stand her voice. Particularly because she seems like she's shouting so much and it's kind of...grating. I don't even care that it's not Drew, I just kind of wish somebody else was hosting. Greg Proops would be kind of awesome, come to think of it.

It took me a few episodes to get used to the new host. She was really stiff the first two episodes but loosened up and it made me feel way more comfortable. I'm hoping next year she'll lose most of the "professional host" and be more "I'm just here to keep you people kind of in line and laugh at your ridiculouslness".

I don't mind Aisha as the new host. I'd much rather they stop with the celebrity guests (or at least only bring them on for a single skit and that's it, instead of dragging them back out while whoever's in the fourth seat gets short-changed) and mix up the games a bit more. It seems like they've been doing the same games every single show and it's not as fun.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-16 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
I like Aisha, but Drew had more of a rapport with the cast and felt more involved and I miss that part. I'm hoping it's just a symptom of newness and changes over time.

It's not as good as it used to be, imo - and I *hate* that they use their ~special celebrity guest~ and almost completely ignore their normal 'guest'.

This is how I thought I'd feel, but I love the new host. She clicks really well with Colin and Ryan, and I actually find her funnier than Drew. I think the new version is as good if not better than the old one, and I say this as a huge fan of the old version who was really afraid that they were going to ruin the show.

Drew was okay as a host, but he had a limited improv range. (We always fast forwarded through his film dub, because ... ugh.)

I agree with axing the guests, though.

(... and if we can't get Proops as host, I'd settle for Tony Slattery. :p)

I actually knew the new host beforehand from other stuff and I think she's great. So that doesn't bother me at all. Now my only problem is figuring out if I have the right channel and when it's on. I am very forgetful.

I'd like to have Drew back, but I guess he's busy on the Price is Right. But since the main reason I watched it was Ryan, Wayne, & Colin so as long as they stay I'll watch it. I do agree with the people who don't like the celebrity guests, though. I wish they'd quit that. I imagine people who watch this show watch it for the regulars and the people who don't watch it probably aren't going to tune in just for a chance to see a certain celeb-of-the-week show off their complete lack of improv ability for five minutes.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-16 08:11 am (UTC)(link)
Funny, I couldn't watch it because of him.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-16 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
But...Drew Carey was the worst part of that show

(Anonymous) 2013-08-16 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't seen the new version but Aisha has got to be better than Clive. He has to be the world's only Brit with no sense of humor.
