I'm guessing you're trolling, but just in case you're not:

That speech was not actually about a dog, dude.

Oh, good. I came in here just to ask if this was true and if so, did it happen on camera? Because I'm no where near the end of BB and won't bother if I have to actually watch someone kill a dog, ffs. (yes, I am aware of the wtf-ery of my attitude)

I hated Angel in RENT (...along with everyone I think we're supposed to like in RENT) for the same reason, so I feel you.

SA

I should probably point out that I haven't seen *this* show/don't know what it is/don't know the context.

Most of the characters in rent are hatable

[personal profile] insanenoodlyguy 2013-08-17 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously, it's about a bunch of shitty artist freeloaders who are bad friends and worse tenants. The fact some of them will leave this world early is only a plus.

I liked Angel except for that - I think I just did a huge "lalala" so I could enjoy her character otherwise. In general Rent does have characters who are hard to like, and I've never been quite sure what we're supposed to take away from them.

You're not alone in this. Animal harm is a serious squick for some people.

I find it baffling that so many people are fine with violence against other humans, but god forbid you kick a puppy. To each their own, I suppose.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-17 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I think a lot of people are baffled, including many of us who feel that way. Logically it doesn't make sense, but it seems to hit a button somewhere. *shrug*

animal harm is definitely something that I can't deal with, but I think it comes down to the general assumption that people at least stand a chance of defending themselves, while animals (+children) do not. Harming any defenseless creature is deplorable on a different level from harming something that could potentially fight back.

But of course there are people who take it to a crazy PETA-esque level just like everything else involving animals :p

IDK, in a fictional context, at least, this usually makes sense to me. Most of the time characters who kill people either a) are killing bad guys or b) are supposed to have all sorts of complex reasons or whatever. Whereas there's very rarely a justifiable reason to kill an animal (unless it's for food), and therefore doing so makes characters seem totally sadistic.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-17 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't see what's so baffling about it. Another adult human is the killer's equal, their peer; in theory, at least, they have a reasonable chance of defending themselves. But an animal -- and especially a domesticated pet -- is inherently dependent on humans, because we have bred them to be dependent on us. Killing someone or something dependent and vulnerable inspires a stronger reaction than killing an equal; there's a level of betrayal layered on top of the cruelty of the killing itself. It's similar to why people react more strongly to harm against children: children are more vulnerable and not as able to protect themselves, so they rely on and trust adults to protect them. Harming a child is a breach of that trust. Is that so hard to understand?

You don't... watch shows very closely, do you.

(Either that or hilarious troll, dude.)

[Picture is Jesse Pinkman? from the TV show Breaking Bad. He has rosy light skin, a shaved head with some brown hair just growing, blue or gray yes tearing up and an imploring look on his face. He is wearing a white T-shirt and a black jacket. He is talking to someone just off-screen.]

I hated Jesse after I found out he killed a dog.

[personal profile] bored_bitch 2013-08-17 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
So, did you just hear the words "kill" and "dog", and then blindly freak out over it without paying attention to the story, or what?
Because he did kill something. Wasn't a dog, though.

Jesse annoys me at times because he has a whiny tough guy complex.
But I think that's only amplified to the point that it is because he's around a bunch of older, calmer men.

Gale kind of had cute puppy dog eyes, I guess, but he wasn't actually an animal.

Pay more attention or troll harder, yo. There's so much better trolling potential with this show (shit, just make a secret with legit criticisms and why you don't like it or a specific character and fans will probably go off on how you're wrong).

(Anonymous) 2013-08-17 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
idk, dogs have proven to be a pretty effective trolling topic on this comm. Remember the bandit-mask husky wank?

It was not a dog, it was a human. It is interesting, many of us finding it more upsetting when an animal or pet is killed on a tv show than when it is a human.

Either way, not reading the comments 'cause I bet it's full of bullshit.

If y'all don't see what's wrong with animal cruelty then get the fuck off this planet k thanks bye!
