I so want this to happen, but sadly I don't think they want anything to do with the Time Lords anymore....

(Anonymous) 2013-08-18 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Everything Moffat touches turns to shit.

I don't want him to touch anything serious, or old skool, or anything until he figures out his massive pacing issues and learns to do an over-arcing storyline without fucking it up.

Also no, let's not have any Cartmel Masterplan bullshit. No. Just no. Get out and wash your mouth out with soap, OP.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-18 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
You sound like a mighty angry individual.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-19 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
You've got your wish, nonnie, Moffat is on record saying there won't be any Classic Who messing up his precious little ego trip with the franchise.

/why I won't watch the 50th, after watching every other milestone special over the years.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-19 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Same anon: I'd LOVE for there to be Classic Who references and callbacks and stuff. I'm a Classic Who fan through and through, however...

I just don't trust Moffat not to fuck it up. After what he did to the last series... urgh. So much wasted potential. In different hands, I'd be happy for it, but he seems to just be using it as... well, an ego trip, like you said.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-18 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know how the master plan would work in context of the new series.

Personally I'm just worried Hurt's Doctor is there to shit all over 9 because Moffat is a bitter child.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-18 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Why's he bitter? Just curious, Eccleston's my favourite. :(

I'm trying to set my expectations for the 50th super super low.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-19 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
I don't have to set my expectations to anything. I flatly refuse to watch. That not-looking-backward comment pretty much solidified it for me.

I'm trying to have no expectations. I'm pretty sure that I'll be disappointed if I do.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-19 10:38 am (UTC)(link)
I'm attempting to do that too. So far it's working.

Anything is better than John Hurt being the forgotten Doctor. They are numbered for a reason. I think fandom would have a collective melt down and screw having to reoginze tags & rename sites.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-18 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't care what Moff's backstory for Hurt is, I am NOT renumbering the Doctor's. Eff that. I know it seems like a silly thing to be mad about but I refuse to let it happen, REFUSE!

Some days I just try to pretend that Moffat is writing really elaborate Who fanfiction.

Oh, good time lord, I never even thought of that. It's proving exceedingly difficult to wrap my head around the logistics of that, not just for the fandom but for the show itself.

I think I've found the one thing that would make me stop watching.

[Picture is the black silhouette of a phone booth, with the text "50 years" showing through small rectangular holes. It has a pretty neat blue background with sort of concentric circles with a blurry disco ball texture, so it looks a very light blue on the center and very dark blue on the edges.]

I'm really hoping John Hurt's Doctor for the Fiftieth isn't some in-between Doctor 8.5, but the Doctor before he even became The Doctor. I want John Hurt's Doctor to be 'The Other' and I want Moffat to resurrect the Cartmel Master Plan. Apparently this puts me at odds with most of the Who Fandom.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-18 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
If he dumped the looms (nice sci-fi concept, dumb storytelling practice..lied a black or a female as Doctor) then I'd back the resurrection of the Cartmel masterplan.

"a black"
ok

A Cartmel Masterplan without Ace is a Cartmel Masterplan not worth having!

Yeah, I immediately thought they were going with Hurt as pre-Hartnell as well. 8.5 is a terrible idea and a shit way to pussy out of the Time War issue.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-18 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
This was my thinking as well. Slapping him between 8 and 9 doesn't make any goddamn sense anyway. There wouldn't have been any need to throw in all of the references to every single regeneration if you were only going to go so far back down the timeline.

But I'll probably be fine with whatever comes. Can't wait to see it. :)

My friend & I were talking about this not long ago. We think much the same as you do. John Hurt's Doctor has got to be pre-One, either before or during whatever happened to make One take off with Susan. We feel that something terrible happened and he fled with his remaining family to make a fresh start somewhere else.

Old!Who would have done it but New!Who is too interested in "love stories", kissing fandom ass and other crap that shouldn't be on the show to invest itself in something so complex as dealing with the time before.

I really like that idea, OP, and it's not one that I've heard before. The phrasing "he's the one who broke the promise" suggests that it's probably not the case, but we'll see.
