Why? I have not seen the movie but the robot is blue, which is typically a masculine color. I -think- it was first piloted by two guys. Then by a guy and girl. There is just as much reason for it to be called "he" than "she".

you're not wrong, even if you get yelled at for this. there's no reason for assigning gender to the machine any which way.

I figure if someone is making a fic with the robots being sentient, they might want to assign a gender (if nothing else to not use it). But really, it is just as likely a 'he' as a 'she'.

Gipsy is called a she...once, and pretty late in the movie.

Not according to everyone on here. I can only assume the main characters will all wear shirts that say, "Gipsy! She is wonderful" (heh I just heard that in my head as Cecil's voice).

I'm pretty sure the robot is repeatedly referred to as 'she' in the movie, so 'he' would be an indication that the writer wasn't paying attention as much as that they like male defaults.

I googled quotes and got this.

Chuck Hansen: Yeah, Gipsy! Kick his ass!

(Anonymous) 2013-08-20 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Not sure what you're trying to imply with that quote.

I'm pretty sure the "he" was referring to a kaiju in this situation.

Yeah, I figured that out. Thank you. :D Now to watch 20 people correct me one by one. :C

In the scene where Mako and Raleigh are having a heart to heart, he comments that 'she is one of a kind' aboue Gipsy Danger.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-20 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
It is a vehicle as well as a giant monster-punching mech thing. They are typically and traditionally referred to with female pronouns.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-20 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
This is good logic.

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2013-08-20 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
That really has no bearing on what a fanfic writer wants to call it though. If they want to call the robot, "he" they would not be wrong. Being a vehicle has not stopped other fandoms from calling a vehicle "he".

This. It's called tradition, people.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-21 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
But Optimus Prime is a truck and robot and is typically referred to as male?

(Anonymous) 2013-08-21 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
He's also a sentient person.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-20 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Gipsy is specifically referred to as she and a lady throughout the movie.

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2013-08-20 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
So? It is a fanfic. If writers can change the gender of a human character, they can change the sex of a sexless robot.

No that's erasure

I am deleting that background you gave me from my background rotation. D:::::

(Anonymous) 2013-08-20 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
1. It's a vehicle
2. It's specifically referred to as She.

What the fuck is you're problem with this? Does it really deal your male ego such a blow to have a 'She' in your giant robot monster movie?

(Anonymous) 2013-08-20 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
blah blah blah sarcastic post rewriting your post except switching all the genders yadda yadda trolling

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2013-08-20 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't give a shit what someone calls it. I have not seen the movie, I am not in the fandom, and I only know a vague plot. But, if someone wants to call the robot He for whatever reason they want, they can. Because it is their fanfic.

Also I am a woman so no, it isn't a blow to my male ego.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-21 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
The pilots call GD a her as of her very first appearance in the film.
