I thought Taylor Swift was disliked by everyone on the internet? At least that is what the tumblr posts keep telling me.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-23 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously. Looks like OP just wanted to start wank.
I have only seen people get hate for hating on Swift when they really called her a "slut" or "whore".

What irritates me about that picture of Taylor Swift is that strand of hair reaching to her mouth. I just have this mad urge to push it away. And holy shit, I did not recognize John Mayer at first.

...I thought most of the internet disliked Taylor Swift?

Anyways, it's not slut shaming [or misogyny] to dislike her because how she treats her exes. It is pretty icky the way she handles it, imo.

[Picture is the musicians John Mayer and Taylor Swift in two different photographs, side by side. John Mayer has light skin, medium-length black hair ending in curls, a small mustache and some beard. He has dark eyes and is wearing a black shirt, tie and suit jacket. Taylor Swift has light skin and long blonde hair pulled back in a ponytail, with a long bang/forelock parted to the side of her head, and ending on a curl next to her cheek and lips. She has blue? eyes framed in blue makeup and black eyeliner and has her lips painted a salmon or coral pink. She is wearing a white blouse or dress that has straps wrapping around her neck and no sleeves. She is also wearing elegant silver earrings.]

I dislike them both for the same reason - they shame their exes, whether it's through the media or through song. However I get more flack for not liking Taylor Swift, because apparently it makes me a slut-shaming misogynist. Really? I think they're both douchebags and hate them equally!

My sister was obsessed with Taylor Swift and would blast her music loud enough to make the walls in our house shake whenever she was mad at me. Having heard all her songs so many times, I always think of them as the chronicle of a girl who is absolutely 100% convinced that she can do no wrong.

There's one where she complains an ex is letting his new GF drive his truck, but never let TS do so. And all I can think is, "Maybe you sucked at driving? Maybe his insurance didn't cover another driver at the time? Maybe - GASP - he turned out to like someone better than you and trusted her more?" Maybe you're not entitled to drive someone else's car just because you're dating them?

Maybe I would hate the songs less if the fans of hers I know didn't act like she's an infallible goddess, too...

(Anonymous) 2013-08-22 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Isn't he, like, the only str8 guy she's ever "dated?"

(Anonymous) 2013-08-22 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, they're both really shitty immature people, and I can't stand people getting up your butt about disliking Taylor Swift because apparently if you even slightly dislike any woman in the history of the fucking world, fictional or real, for any reason whatsoever, you're a misogynistic disgrace to feminism. It's beyond irritating.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-23 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
Bullshit. But how easy to paint shadowy omnipresent SJWs pointing their fingers at poor little reasonable you.

In what world are you living in? Your own imagination probably.
Go out into the real world and you'll see that you can hate on Taylor Swift as much as you want. It's a well established joke by now to point out how she only dates guys to break up with them and write a song about them.

And even on F!S I've seen nothing but people mocking her and shaking their heads at her behaviour.

This SJW army you speak of, it only persecutes you in your mind.

Taylor Swift does plenty of slut-shaming and just utterly infuriating things herself, so her rabid defenders have no ground, OP.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-22 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
The way she treats her exes might be douchey, but it's also hilarious.

And I do find it interesting, her image and the contrast between the squeaky-clen, infallible, perfect, larger-than-life elements with some of its weirder elements. I don't know if I'm a fan but I do like her and I think that is a large part of why (and also the fact that I think she makes really, really good pop music, and also if we're being honest probably the fact that she's really, really pretty).

I was reading a review of a Taylor Swift concert and it was legitimately compared to a political rally in terms of the imagery and the scale and the passion. I mean, say what you will about Taylor Swift, but that is interesting.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-22 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
they shame *their exes. :)

THEIR exes, though.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-22 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't judge you for disliking either of them. I think they're* both annoying and I don't care for either of their† music.

*contraction, meaning "they are"
†possessive, meaning "belonging to them"

Re: THEIR exes, though.

Haha, this.

Re: THEIR exes, though.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-23 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
Yes.

The use of the wrong variant was incredibly distracting for me in this secret.

Re: THEIR exes, though.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-23 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I ... didn't notice it.
Should I be happy that I have one pet peeve less to stumble over, or should I be worried?

(Anonymous) 2013-08-23 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
Ya know, I don't think there's anything wrong with bitching about an ex. I also don't think there's anything wrong with writing songs about bitching about an ex, because there are a lot of people out there going through break-ups, and it can help to have a few "FUCK YOU" songs to listen to.

So, I dunno. I want to agree with this secret, because it's sensible. But, at the same time, I completely understand the sentiment and purpose behind songs that "shame" exes. Conundrum.*

*...maybe not, because when pressed, I will honestly say that I do not like either Mayer or Swift.

While not, by any means, a fan of Swift (and I don't even know Mayer's music) I do at least find that one Swift song that goes "Why you gotta be so mean," a little helpful at times. It is nice though for an artist to not out and out tell everyone what ex they're complaining about. Like Carly Simon has refused to comment on on who the song, "You're So Vain," is about.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-23 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
Yup, they both seem like douchebags.

I don't really give a damn about either but, honestly, barring extraordinary circumstances and normal (private) venting between friends, it's pretty crass to be talking shit about your exes anyway.
