tmi, but I kind of regret the day I started shaving my legs out of curiosity. I used to have super light, super soft hair. :<

I never shaved but I used to wax. Now I've stopped and my hair is still super soft and oh so pettable and I love it this way.

That's a myth (already proven wrong numerous times): shaving doesn't create more or darker hair and the regrowing hair just feels "harder" because it was cut. I got more and darker hair during puberty (before I shaved for the first time).

Except for italians.

Well then I'm a mythical creature because the hair that's growing now is definitely darker than before and probably? Because I used to spend a lot of time outside in the sun.

Isn't the root thicker than the rest of the hair as well, so when it starts to grow back, it's automatically thicker at first? I thought that was the main reason.

Do you use shaving foam? Because that could also make your hairs darker, or so I have heard. I never use shaving foam myself, but I see a difference when I just shave or when I use hair removal cream so there might be something in it?

I use a shaver that has some sort of, eh, soap (idek) for dry skin attached to it.

Your hair might very well be growing in thicker and darker, but it has nothing to do with shaving or not shaving.

All of my hair gets lighter when I spend a lot of time in the sun. The hair on my legs rarely has a chance for that these days because it gets cut off before it gets to bleach out in the sun. So, yes, shaving does have something to do with it. (I never said it's thicker btw.)

That was probably it then. The hair you originally had was sun-bleached, while the new hair isn't. What you could do is just bleach it (there are hair bleaches for body hair) and see if it looks more to your liking.

idk, I shaved part of my arm once just for shits and giggles when I was like... 11 and it's still the only patch of dark hair on my arm 17 years later.

For what it's worth, that's pretty much the biggest myth there is. When you stop to think about it, there's no logic behind it whatsoever, and a lot of girls start shaving so young their body hair hasn't even fully developed yet, the same way a beard starts off all thin and puny and takes a few years to mature. Correlation does not equal causality, and all that jazz.

I think I was 20 or 21 when I first shaved my legs. So, not all that young?

(Anonymous) 2013-08-25 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, bless.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-26 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I too, started shaving my legs only out of curiosity. I think I was 19 when I first did it.
I liked the feel of cloth on my non-hairy lower legs so I kept doing it.
But then I got lazy, let it grow back and also started to think the hair was thicker and darker.

Turns out it was only because I was so used to hair-free legs that as soon as the stubble started to appear again, it looked and felt alien to me.

My bf at that time also confirmed to me that he couldn't see anything wrong with the way my hair had grown back and I believed him since he was an expert on beards ;)

I don't know for legs or beard, but it did happens for my armpits. I started shaving them after I reached adulthood, and now I've got coarser, mutant-twin hair--two hairs growing out of the same folicle.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-25 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I get those mutant hairs too! And it never happened before I started shaving/waxing.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-25 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Shaving legs and armpits also impairs your reading comprehension. It happened to someone I know, so it must be true.

I also get those double-hairs when I pluck strays. They start of as one and then I get too growing out of the same follicle. So it does happen.
