Arwen didn't do much of anything in the books except be a "damsel-in-distress." In fact, that was the source of most of the criticism about her portrayal when the first film came out. People were all, "why is she doing things?"

So, I'd honestly like to know what the fuck you are talking about, because I don't think you've actually read the books. I think you're some stupid fucking tumblr jackass who takes the word of every SJW at face-value and doesn't have a single independent thought.

How on Middle-earth is Arwen a damsel-in-distress in the books? If it's because she's not doing much in the War of the Ring, then a bunch of other characters (including male ones) are as well. And really the point of her story and her tragedy is that she has to make a choice between the man she loves and her family, and that she ends up choosing mortality even though it ultimately seems that she does not accept it or want it.
Now you can call that sexist since much of her choice revolves around a man (or two men, since a lot of it also has to do with Elrond), and also because all of that happens in an Appendix and she really is underdeveloped in the main text... but that still doesn't make her damsel in distress to me.

In what way was Arwen a damsel in distress in the books?

She wasn't a "damsel-in-distress", she was the future wife who sat back safe, at home, and sewed a flag.

Yes, she sewed a flag, with the White Tree of Gondor on it. I think she actually gave it to her brothers who gave it to Aragorn before the Paths of the Dead.
