I'm with you there, OP. But then I wonder if guys, friends, truly experiment with each other or if it's a myth.

Some do, some don't. I know some who did, and some who would never in a million years.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-04 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
It does happen, but it's not sometime you can automatically assume happens. Just like girls experimenting with each other... it might be rumors, it might be just a porn trope, but it DOES HAPPEN in real life... it's just, you know... kind of rude to ask some one if they do that with friends and a bit rude to assume they have without them revealing that information for themselves.

let a guy fied this one

Much, much less then you wish. And almost never with famous folks. If they did it, it was as teenagers with some person you never heard of. Not with each other. Oh sure, there's drug binges, but by this point, there's also bitches. Lots of bitches.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-03 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Why? Can you not accept that four men can be good, close friends without experimentation?

(Anonymous) 2013-09-03 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Apparently not, since anyone who says so gets their Slash & Yaoi Club Card revoked.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-04 06:12 am (UTC)(link)
At least two of them were NOT good, close friends anyway.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-03 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
It's very possible John 'experimented' with Brian Epstein. But we'll probably never know now.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-03 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
It feels weirder because firm beliefs about the sex lives of people you don't know are weird. The "kind of person" who ships them is satisfied with fantasy.

OP:

(Anonymous) 2013-09-03 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not really a 'firm belief' or anything, it more of a "They probably had a totally platonic relationship, but if it turns out that they were a little 'bi-curious,' I wouldn't be TOTALLY shocked

The fact that I'm a woman and that traditionally it's more 'okay' for us to experiment with bisexuality maybe giving me a bit of a bias, but yeah...

(Anonymous) 2013-09-03 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Unlikely. They didn't actually like each other all that much.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-04 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
MTE

(Anonymous) 2013-09-04 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
This^

People seem to forget this all the time but the reality was they didn't like each other much and avoided spending time together.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-04 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
They got on perfectly fine for the first half of their existence as a band. Paul and John were best friends! It wasn't until after touring that they actually started to fall apart. Mostly from being on top of each other for over 5 years straight. Hardly the same thing as disliking each other.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-04 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
I think the idea of them as besties and "they didn't like each other" are both simplistic. John and Paul especially had a really complicated relationship. Though I guess by the last few years, that was true.

[Picture is a black and white photograph of the musical group "The Beatles" when they were young/alive. They are four young men with light skin and short dark hair wearing warm clothing and smiling for the camera.]

I'm not the kind of person to ship them or anything. But I'd be genuinely surprised to find out that they DEFINITELY didn't 'experiment' with each other at all.

Secret because: This sounds even weirder than just shipping them...

*can't stop laughing*

Maybe, maybe not...

(Anonymous) 2013-09-03 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
... but either way, they probably had sexual (and even romantic) relationships with others that weren't as intimate.

[personal profile] cbrachyrhynchos 2013-09-04 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Given that John was a bit of a homophobe (and a bit of a dick about it), I have my doubts. The "experiment" probably went no further than doing the same groupie.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-04 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
Uh, ya know some homophobes can have closeted sexual desires for people of the same sex, and even act on them whilst still remaining homophobic after the act. I'm not saying that means anything did happen, I'm just saying that homophobe ≠ 100% straight.

Especially back then considering that homosexuality was only decriminalised '67 and was still hardly considered acceptable for a long, long time after that.

If it counts (and I'd rather not Google this to find it again) I read a confession from Paul about his and John's younger years. They apparently jerked off in the same room together on a regular basis.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-04 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
I've heard this, too. And apparently John would say things at just the right moment to try and throw the other boys (not just Paul) off.

Ah, yes, there's a bit about that in the Paul McCartney bio Many Years From Now. It was a thing that adolescent boys did in those days, jerking off in dark rooms together.

o.0 <--- my reaction upon reading that part.

(I still haven't finished the book. I was so traumatized by that particular revelation that it put me off reading much beyond that. I really should go back and read the rest of it at some point.)

My lord, what an ugly pack of males that is.
