Nah. Nah. He was in the thing, it's natural he's going to defend it, and in any case, he's entitled to his own opinion. Disagreeing with him doesn't merit telling him he's a horrible fuck, or whatever.

But I think the best part of this secret is just kind of slipping in the "anyone who liked STID or defends it is clearly an idiot". I mean, I didn't like the movie, but come on, people are allowed to like it. Especially the part about how it "insults the intelligence of the fandom" (presumably in some way that The Final Frontier or Generations or Nemesis or Insurrection didn't) - it's almost like you're some kind of butthurt fanboy, or something.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-03 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah. Nah. He was in the thing
Awe, is this part of your comment supposed to sound tumblry-hipstery or something?

You know everyone's entitled to an opinion, sweetie. And disagreement is part of the job of having opinions.

Especially the part about how it "insults the intelligence of the fandom"
I especially like how you can't even bother to disprove this point?

Hey, this secret is insulting the movie, but if you feel it's "kind of" also insulting fans for liking it that's your deal. You're entitled to feeling that way.

be careful you don't throw out your back ...

(Anonymous) 2013-09-03 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
... with all that head-patting, "sweetie."

(Anonymous) 2013-09-03 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, I keep trying to write a substantial reply to this post, and then I notice that you didn't actually say anything? You basically just condescended to me a bunch, and then told me that I was entitled to my feelings. So I'm having kind of a tough time here. Not sure what to do. It's a confusing time in my life. So, uh, I guess I'll tell you to stop being a condescending ass, and then just hit reply.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-03 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Other than trying to mock the secret/OP, you had no real substance to your comment either (aside from blindly defending Simon Pegg, that is).

(Anonymous) 2013-09-03 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
i think "the idea that STID insults the intelligence in a way that all the previous shitty Star Trek movies didn't is ludicrous, so stop pretending STID is doing something to the fandom that Star Trek hasn't already done" has some content to it, personally

(Anonymous) 2013-09-04 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
You know just because you or the anon find the original movies to be shitty doesn't mean they're "insulting" anyone's intelligence. That is a whole different argument. They could be bad for other reasons than "insulting" whatever or whoever.

I shouldn't even have to explain what makes STID (and reboot) so fundamentally different compared to the originals and why comparisons like what you're trying to do are stupid and pointless. Great logic: "There's other bad movies out there, so why are you punishing STID for it? Boo hoo!"

(Anonymous) 2013-09-04 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
Come on, you're really going to tell me that Final Frontier doesn't insult peoples' intelligence?

That's this movie, for reference: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDf2-EfMRAM

Seriously?

It's a bad movie. Get over it. It's not like Star Trek was some perfect, shining franchise before this. This is a series that contained Spock's Brain. This is a series that contained Code of Honor. Final Frontier. Not to mention Threshold. Threshold! Threshold, people! It's a bad movie, but it's not like it's unique in being a bad thing with the Star Trek name. It doesn't ruin the franchise any more than any of those things did. Getting all angry about it like it's besmirching the good name of Star Trek is just silly, as is saying that you have to be stupid to like it.

Star Trek has always been a franchise with bad stuff, goofy stuff, dumb stuff, all different kinds of stuff. Now there's another movie that's pretty bad. Move on and ignore it like you ignore all the other stupid, crappy parts of Star Trek. Just... move on.

NO Star Trek will ever come closer to insulting the viewer's intelligence than Final Frontier. Though the first and last seasons of TNG came close.

"I shouldn't even have to explain what makes STID (and reboot) so fundamentally different compared to the originals and why comparisons like what you're trying to do are stupid and pointless."

Except if you're using it as the crux of your argument you kinda do. Or you should, if you actually want anyone to take you seriously.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-04 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm also waiting for an explanation of this. What is so fundamentally different? (BC? 3D? KY?)

(Anonymous) 2013-09-04 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
Especially the part about how it "insults the intelligence of the fandom"
I especially like how you can't even bother to disprove this point?

You want the person to prove the intelligence of a whole fandom or GTFO?

You seem like a bit of an ass.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-04 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Could you be anymore of a condescending twit?

(Anonymous) 2013-09-04 08:38 am (UTC)(link)
And if you can't disagree with someone without calling them a horrible fuck that term most likely better suits yourself.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-03 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Screw you. Generations and Insurrection were awesome.

I liked Generations, didn't like Insurrection though.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-04 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
Insurrection? Really? I guess it's nice that it has fans. It was better than Nemesis, I'll give you that.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-04 08:42 am (UTC)(link)
The only good part about that was Picard and Deanna being bamfs.

I can't even remember what happened in Insurrection. Were there Borg in that one? I think there were Borg, but there were Borg in First Contact, so I might be conflating parts of that one...

Nemesis, I can at least remember the basics of the plot (First Contact and Generations, too)...Insurrection...total blank slate.

Uh, it basically featured the crew being cute and a ham-fisted moral. Star Trek's always had a bit of a weird relationship with people who've gone and decided to ditch technology to find 'Eden'.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-04 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
We are the Borg. Facebook is our hive. Resistance is futile.

We don't talk about Nemesis.

I enjoyed Generations though(can't remember enough about Insurrection other than face pulling? Peeling? Alien people).

(Anonymous) 2013-09-04 06:50 am (UTC)(link)
See, even your incoherent description of Insurrection is much more interesting than Insurrection itself

I think it's basically true that my issue with Generations is more about potential than about the thing itself

Well, to be fair those other films did it accidentally.
