(Anonymous) 2013-09-03 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)But I think the best part of this secret is just kind of slipping in the "anyone who liked STID or defends it is clearly an idiot". I mean, I didn't like the movie, but come on, people are allowed to like it. Especially the part about how it "insults the intelligence of the fandom" (presumably in some way that The Final Frontier or Generations or Nemesis or Insurrection didn't) - it's almost like you're some kind of butthurt fanboy, or something.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-03 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)Awe, is this part of your comment supposed to sound tumblry-hipstery or something?
You know everyone's entitled to an opinion, sweetie. And disagreement is part of the job of having opinions.
Especially the part about how it "insults the intelligence of the fandom"
I especially like how you can't even bother to disprove this point?
Hey, this secret is insulting the movie, but if you feel it's "kind of" also insulting fans for liking it that's your deal. You're entitled to feeling that way.
be careful you don't throw out your back ...

(Anonymous) 2013-09-04 01:11 am (UTC)(link)I shouldn't even have to explain what makes STID (and reboot) so fundamentally different compared to the originals and why comparisons like what you're trying to do are stupid and pointless. Great logic: "There's other bad movies out there, so why are you punishing STID for it? Boo hoo!"

(Anonymous) 2013-09-04 02:24 am (UTC)(link)That's this movie, for reference: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDf2-EfMRAM
Seriously?
It's a bad movie. Get over it. It's not like Star Trek was some perfect, shining franchise before this. This is a series that contained Spock's Brain. This is a series that contained Code of Honor. Final Frontier. Not to mention Threshold. Threshold! Threshold, people! It's a bad movie, but it's not like it's unique in being a bad thing with the Star Trek name. It doesn't ruin the franchise any more than any of those things did. Getting all angry about it like it's besmirching the good name of Star Trek is just silly, as is saying that you have to be stupid to like it.
Star Trek has always been a franchise with bad stuff, goofy stuff, dumb stuff, all different kinds of stuff. Now there's another movie that's pretty bad. Move on and ignore it like you ignore all the other stupid, crappy parts of Star Trek. Just... move on.

Except if you're using it as the crux of your argument you kinda do. Or you should, if you actually want anyone to take you seriously.

You want the person to prove the intelligence of a whole fandom or GTFO?
You seem like a bit of an ass.

Nemesis, I can at least remember the basics of the plot (First Contact and Generations, too)...Insurrection...total blank slate.

I enjoyed Generations though(can't remember enough about Insurrection other than face pulling? Peeling? Alien people).

(Anonymous) 2013-09-04 06:50 am (UTC)(link)I think it's basically true that my issue with Generations is more about potential than about the thing itself
