I just hope the next film bombs so badly the powers that be will realise this reboot was a mistake and put an end to it.

I just want more Trek on TV.

Don't think it will happen for a decade or so, either way, though.

The next film is likely to be the last one in any case. But if it truly bombed (which I don't think it will, as they'll probably just do the same thing for the third time straight) it would be the end of Trek for the foreseeable future. Like it or not, the Reboot's success is how we're going to get more Trek in some form.

Then trek can die.

I've been playing devil's advocate above, but the reboot isn't all that great. I'll let what I love die while there's still good memories rather then go with "maybe if we support this suck we'll get something better AND NOT MORE SUCK"

I just don't hate Pegg for it.

And people seem to be looking at the history of cinematic Trek through rose-colored glasses. Khan and Search are probably the two stand-outs. Before that was Roddenberry trying to do Tarkovsky and Kubrick (a magnificent failure but still a failure), and after that you had a declining franchise built around maximum fan service.

And Karl Urban can go off and do something else interesting (his Bones is good, but surrounded by crap - he needs roles where he's not surrounded by crap).

Huh? Karl Urban has a long (and not particularly glorious) filmography. Star Trek brought him way up in the world as an actor (he is now repped by CAA). And at the rate of one film every three years, it's not exactly tying up his time.

Be that as it may, J.J. cast him in his fall TV series on FOX, Almost Human, so that's what he's going to be doing.

I am under an impression that he's married and has children. Maybe he's not doing vast amounts of stuff because he wants quality home time. TV is good for that.

"Doom" wasn't shabby, either. At least my sister and I were happy with it.

I just don't understand this level of butthurt, even if you don't like them from a Trek fans perspective they are still solid movies...I just have such trouble grasping that people hate them so much. I love TOS and I love reboot, I want more for as long as they keep making them :/
