Ah, the nostalgia!
I'm a bit sad, though. Back in 08 I wasn't interested in Hetalia and didn't understand the big fuss. Now that I have knowledge there is almost no wank anymore :(

Secret 4 - Hetalia

I never plan to give this series or its fandom a chance. At first, I didn't understand why Russia sucked. This is RUSSIA not some sweet, innocent woobie. If one were to personify Russia, I'd imagine a big, burly, tough and serious dude. In fact, most of the countries are a bunch of hairless twenty-something babies. And white. They're all woobified stereotypical parodies. Appealing to the lowest common denominator of fandom, probably.

The whole premise is garbage. The art design is even worse. Everyone looks exactly the same. Sameface. Every. Single. Character. What the hell?

Secret because: My issue with Russia is probably the dealbreaker for me. And the ugly art.

I only got into Hetalia a few motnhs ago (as I am always late to the party) because of season 5.

I love Hetalia for really shallow reasons: beautiful fanarts, historical context so I get to draw costume porn as much as I want, I love to make fun of my own country, I think the stereotyping adds to the fun, I enjoy the many canon AUs.

But just in case this isn't one:

If the depiction of countries in Hetalia was "accurate" they'd all hate each other and over 70% of them would be raging homophobes (especially your friend Russia).
And yet it's just comedy and there's a shitload of shiptease. It's a dumb parody comic thing. Nobody is forcing you "to give it a chance" and I'm sure you're not missing out on anything, either.

And I will readily admit that I like Hetalia. I also don't think it's this work of art the fans want it to be. It's harmless stupid fun nobody should take too seriously because it's not trying to make any political statements (unlike other material that features national stereotypes, I'm looking at Hollywood blockbusters specifically).

This is what Hetalia is all about. It is constantly filed under "comedy" or "parody" with the add-on "historical". It plays with stereotypes in a light-hearted manner and teaches a wee bit about culture. It originates from a webcomic project that was created by a history nerd who likes cute guys.

People like you probably also complain about 'Allo, 'Allo! for not featuring enough war crimes.
The Anti-Hetalians have always been as hilariously stupid as the rabid "Hetalia is my religion" fans who SiegHeil in public. Thanks for proving you guys haven't died out and are still there to deliver some laughs ;)

Eh, I'll bite because there aren't many secrets I wish to comment on. Otherwise I'd pass yours by. I haven't been in the Hetalia fandom in years but I never got to enter in on the wank that went on back then so hey, let's have some fun now.

1. All countries are based of Japanese stereotypes of other countries. So duh it's not going to be whatever your stereotypes of countries are.

2. Most countries are white because the ones most represented are predominantly white countries.

3. "Lowest common denominator" Fuck off.

5. I'm bored.
