Wow man I really fucked up my mouth
(Anonymous) 2013-09-10 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)Also, I'm in a weird situation right now, so medical assistance will probably take a while.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-11 01:56 am (UTC)(link)OP, do not do this. Peroxide can kill surface infections, but for deep infections, it can actually spread the infection around and/or kill tissue.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-11 01:15 am (UTC)(link)Never heard of that, and I've used saline rinses for various mouth-related issues for decades, have not had any problems of that nature. Works way better than OTC chemicals, IME, OP, for both pain and healing. (The swelling should go down noticeably after one rinse.)
...I am also uncertain how salt in the bloodstream could form clots. exactly. Given that the bulk of one's blood plasma (the bit that isn't red or white blood cells) essentially is saline...

(Anonymous) 2013-09-11 01:44 am (UTC)(link)well now I'm finding, with one exception, that it's not true? weird. I've always heard it as a bit of popular wisdom (although I've heard the exact opposite like in this thread too, about soaking wounds on saltwater)
well damn now I'm confused!
Re: Wow man I really fucked up my mouth
(Anonymous) 2013-09-11 01:54 am (UTC)(link)When anon says salt water, they mean like a teaspoon of salt per cup of water. Saline rinses aren't supposed to be very salty at all.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-11 01:43 am (UTC)(link)Re: Wow man I really fucked up my mouth
God knows how many times I personally got angry with a toothbrush and ended up hurting my gums or soft tissue. Heck, I've hurt myself eating crackers.
It's normal for a cut anywhere to sting, hurt cause discomfort and even be a little swollen - just think of paper cuts - because the inside of your mouth is sensitive and once hurt, takes some time to heal.
(also, it probably hurts to open your mouth precisely because you got hurt at the very back of your mouth. Your temporomandibular joint is close-by. The pain might be irradiating...again, only probably. Tell me if I was right whenever you go visit that dentist. I could use the knowledge. ^^)
Rinse with salt water (1 tablespoon salt in a glass of water and gently rinse) or try bicarbonate (same 1 tablespoon in a glass of water). The latter kills bacteria in your mouth. It's even indicated that you drink it as it neutralizes your pH and does wonders to your whole body.
To help close the wound quickly, rinse with pot marigold tea. It's used by many dentists and has proven itself to be very useful.
