(Anonymous) 2013-09-13 01:54 am (UTC)(link)That S/U rumor has been argued over for a while--it was never proven and is mostly circulated by S/U fans, so pay it no mind. /shipping is serious business
you sure?

"I decided then from the character that I read [Spock] that I wanted to be very much like that character but in a feminine way. And Gene said, and I was sharing this with George the other day, when I told him that I thought of Spock as my mentor. Because if you remember Uhura was the only one he was able to teach the Vulcan lyre too and he sang and spooffed on Spock. Now, you could have never had a love scene in 63 between Uhura and Spock but there were several hints and [back to Roddenberry] Gene was one in the kind of beginning to follow that and he wanted to do episodes if we had gone past the third year" - Nichelle Nichols
the K/S kiss was supposed to be between S/U originally but Shatner changed it: http://www.themarysue.com/uhura-spock-kirk-kiss/
my bro who is a long time fan also remember that TPDB had said the same thing (what Nichelle said above) years ago that's why he wasn't that surprised by the pair in the reboot.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-13 07:13 am (UTC)(link)Roddenberry commented on love between Kirk and Spock that:
Yes, there's certainly some of that -- certainly with love overtones. Deep love. The only difference being, the Greek ideal-- we never suggested in the series-- physical love between the two. But it's the-- we certainly had the feeling that the affection was sufficient for that, if that were the particular style of the 23rd century.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-13 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)I will never buy the idea that he would have put Kirk and Spock together in HIS show (original point of the thread) because at the time he was a homophobe, it doesn't matter he became more open minded many many years later and wanted to introduce new gay characters in the franchise of late (TNG&co). He was even quoted saying he wanted Spock to get married in the end, if the show went past the third season [[later Picard said he met Sarek at his son wedding and many speculate it could be no one but Spock since Sarek's only son was him - and Sybok died in STV - (apocrypha: Spock did marry a woman in the novels too)]]
I think that some people mistake his choice of late to be more accepting and open minded with the slash fans (especially compared to TPTB handled it in the 70s) as him stating that he shipped K/S or made it canon. He was quoted saying that it was never their intention to imply more than friendship between those characters but this is the part that people strangely dismiss as not relevant when they post his comments...
