Bam. Right. Fucking. There. If you have other choices, you don't have only one option. Living in a bad neighborhood still doesn't mean there aren't roommates who won't kill you. Living in a good neighborhood doesn't mean your roommates won't kill you. That's what happens when you live with strangers, and it is a risk everyone takes.

There are options. You have specific requirements for your option. Only one of several options meets your requirements, but the other options were there. Thus, you chose that one option, because you had the ability to choose that one option.

It's not anybody's problem but your own that your requirements eliminated so many options. Don't act like you were forced to make that decision.

Options that can get you killed are viable options, judging by the fact people choose them. There's a difference between risk and certainty, and you're obviously conflating the two. No one chooses to be a murder victim. Many people choose situations that put them at risk of murder, however, because that's how being an adult works. Safety is not a guarantee.

The problem with your argument is that it operates under the assumption that having roommate is a guarantee you'll have a cheaper place to live, and that's really not the case. When you have a roommate who doesn't pay their bills (and all of my roommates except one have been like that), you're still living by yourself financially. You're just paying double the price and not getting the benefit of privacy.
