Re: It's that time again (non-fandom confessions)

I look down on grown PEOPLE, from every gender, who can't do a simple fried eggs/boiled potatoes combo to feed themselves if in need, and can't fix a button.

We ain't talking about Cordon Bleu cuisine here, or making AMAZING COSPLAYS with the sewing machine. It's about being able to take care of yourself :/ And the people on this thread that are like "Naaaaaaah, I just buy another shirt/pants if I pop a button" baffle me. The culture of throwing stuff away instead of fixing it is completely alien for me. Please tell me not everyone in First World countries is like that O.o

Agreed. They're called basic life skills for a reason, and they're kind of required. :/

... I don't care about how disgusting you think they are (which they aren't, by the way): Bread isn't as healthy as a carb as potatoes or rice :/ The only reason I didn't say "rice" first is because making decent rice is a little bit more difficult than just boiling potatoes.

Oh, IA, it's a much healthier choice than bread; I just hate potatoes. :-) (yeah yeah I load up on bananas and get an order of fries every so often when I start seeing the funny lights if I stand still for too long)

Rice can be simple, if you buy the tinned variety (which is disgusting in its own right, but idiot-proof), or the minute stuff. Still not healthy though. Which is why I would also add "how to steam veggies" to the list of needs-to-know-to-not-drop-dead-mad-skillz.

I've been cooking for years. I can cook all sorts of yummy meals, but damned if I can get rice to turn out right.

This is why I "cheat" and by the boil-in-a-bag stuff that always comes out right.

And whole wheat bread is your healthy toast alternative. I'm too impatient in the morning to wait for potatoes to cook.

are you and sewing-is-easy!anon thick? What YOU may find easy is not generally easy for everyone.

I fucking hate potatoes, I can never get them right. Rice however, no problem that's the easiest shit to make! But then I also realise that what *I* find easy to cook, the next person over may not. Bread from scratch - the easiest thing in my books, something about it just clicks and it's easy. But I have that magical adult skill where I realise that just because I can do it, it may not be so easy for other people

I can cook a lot of different kinds of eggs pretty well, but for some bizarre reason, I can never remember how to make scrambled eggs. It's like the dumbest thing in the world to forget!
