So...this troll attempt failed.

Well it wasn't really a troll attempt. I am irrationally afraid of dogs, although I believe most phobias are irrational, but it's not because of any book. The idea for the secret came when a coworker jokingly ascribed my fear of dogs to a fear of them "going Cujo", which was laughably untrue the mark and made me think of how stupid you guys would find that (because he was infected with rabies, not evil). I didn't realize people might, aside from pointing out it was stupid which I laughed along with, might in a misunderstanding think I meant any violence towards dogs. That's not the case. I may be afraid of dogs, but I don't hate them or wish them any ill will. So that's the first and last troll attempt I will make - I though it would be funny, not a cause for anger.

Night!

sadly a lot of people think that having a phobia means that you despise the object of said phobia and want them all dead (although some people do act this way)

this probably touched a nerve with people because dogs are very frequently the object of revile and sometimes violence because of cultural ideas that some dogs are bad evil dogs only waiting for a chance to kill, i wouldn't take it personally

FWIW, I could have written this secret. I've never actually read/seen Cujo, just knew it was about a vicious dog, and my fear comes more from having seen dogs "go Cujo" on people (aka, watching my brother and my best friend get attacked by a rottweiler) than the fictional depiction.

I work as a dog trainer on rehabilitating abused pitbulls, and I work to get pitbulls puppies rehomed to loving families that will get them trained to be ambassadors for the breed. Your secret sounds way too much like the "every pitbull is mean/aggressive/vicious/dangerous and should be eliminated" logic that I hear way too often. Also the S!B got to me because what you referred to as "yards yadda" is, in fact, true. Every dog has the potential to be a fabulous, well-adjusted house pet if raised properly. I understand that you have a strong phobia, which I get (I've got one for spiders, I feel you), but you sound like a lot of ignorant people that make it difficult to adopt out some wonderful dogs.
