I have OCD...I could give you afreakin' list

when I look down from a high point I think of myself jumping off it for some reason

I'm afraid of changing lihtbulbs lest someone flips a switch and I get electrocuted to death

getting my limbs caught in a garbage disposal

and when I was eight or nine...

-I feared that there was one bad word you could say that would make everyone in the world hate you
-I feared that I would see a phone and randomly want to dial 911 when it was not an emergency
- I saw a fire drill switch in the halls and was always afraid I would turn it on when I passed it. At one point this fear upset me so much they had to call my parents.

Yeah.......anxiety disorders suck balls...

I'm sorry about your OCD. I have it a bit (many of my family members have it worse), so I completely understand those odd compulsive thoughts that creep up on you.

It was when I was 9- 10 years old that we really discovered it because I had a minor breakdown after we moved away from my childhood home. I used to blame the fact that we moved but now I feel like it (the moving) was a blessing in disguise. Now that we knew I could get help.

My dad taught me to cope by thinking of it as a wave that will pass. It helped a lot. I still get them, but I can usually say "that's just an OCD thing" and wait it out. The worst is when you don't know because you wonder if it's something wrong with you.

I think I should get checked for OCD. I could have written this list.

I'd strongly suggest you get it checked out then. A lot of these are the sort of magical thinking things that a lot of people with OCD have- the the bad words one.

The thing about fearing you'll fling yourself off something tall is so interesting! I have it too, and it actually seems to be really common, but rarely discussed and kind of qualitatively different from conventional fear-of-heights stuff. I kind of wonder what's behind it.

I sometimes feel like I got that from my brother in a way. I mean he confessed to it and our Dad didn't seem to think it was that bad. (I don't believe he meant harm but I hated how he waved off my brothers fears when we were young). My brother and I were close and I was the one who sympathized with him about his fear, perhaps a bit too much lol.

For me I just think of how easy it would be to -*shudder* Even when it's not easy at all.
