Weird Things You Are Afraid Of?

I am afraid of sneezing but only when I sneeze. So whenever I have to sneeze, I try and turn it into a cough.

I am also afraid of opening closed doors and looking outside through windows when it is dark. One day...one day I know there is going to be a murderer on the other side.

What are some unusual fears you have?

I'm terrified of stepping on toads. If I see a toad, I start freaking out and make really wide circles around it (if I have to pass it), because I'm scared I'll accidentally step on it and kill it.

It's just toads, though. I don't have that fear with frogs, or any other small animal.

Something - a knife, a sheet of metal, a pane of glass, something flat and long with an edge - getting loose and slicing up underneath my kneecap.

I don't know where this came from (possibly it's because my dad had to have surgery to replace the cartilage under his kneecaps when I was little?) but even the thought of it is enough to make me want to curl up in a small ball, clutching my knees.

My big one is injury to eyes. Or most things involving eyeballs, really. Strangely-placed eyes are fine, but eyeballs MUST belong in eye sockets. :(

A minor (but more real-world) one kind of related is losing my glasses, because I'm basically helpless without them. Strangely enough I've never had the loss of vision phobia though.

Looking up at the sky in video games freaks the heck out of me, and I'm stil not quite sure why. But I used to have to close my eyes every time I played the Ballad of Gales in Wind Waker. :\

Growing up I had a fear of taking showers (in a glass stall) and walking by churches.

I fear the invention of time travel. No seriously, we all know that the first thing that happens when time travel is invented is people go back in time to kill Hitler, fail, and the Nazis somehow takeover the world. If time travel ever happens we'll all inevitably be living under a Nazi state. Which is a problem because I also kinda, for real, have a slight unreasoning terror of blue eyed blonds with buzz cuts.

Also sometimes I worry that I'll fall asleep with a foot sticking out from under the quilt and rats or mice will start trying to eat my toes.

Walking over bridges. I have an irrational fear they'll collapse and I'll either drown or be crushed by concrete. I'm fine driving over them but if I have to walk over one I prefer to walk in the middle of the bridge.

Also i have a reoccurring nightmare where all my teeth rot and it legit freaks me out.

That if I go down a slide my legs will get stuck at the bottom and I will be thrown head over feet. Also that one day I will trip and my knee joint will break and bend backwards. That people watch me through my bedroom window when I have the light on late at night. Also I have the holes phobia/gross out thing.

Horror movies. I can't even watch the funny ones, save The Haunted Mansion (and yes, I know that one has serious flaws).

Also, when I was younger I refuse to sleep in front of mirrors, and during my sleeping-with-parents phase there was a mirror right in front of the mattress.

I think that's why I buy very large blankets now.

I hold my breath when I use cooking spray so I don't get lipid pneumonia.

I used to be scared of looking at windows at night, because I might see some kind of humanoid creature looking back at me. I was also more freaked-out by walking on well-lit streets than dark ones, because the street lights might shine on something scary. These things were more of an issue when I was a lot crazier than I am now, so they haven't bothered me in a while.

Oh, and I don't trust those rope ladders that drop from helicopters, and hope I'm never in a scenario where I have to use one. (See also: folding attic ladders.)

Randomly losing my limbs. In horror movies, I hate when people get their limbs cut off. It always makes me cringe (I have no idea how I got through all the Saw's tbh).

I have pain in one leg, so for a while I was afraid I had contracted a random disease and I'd have to get it amputated.

Reflective surfaces at night are my greatest weakness, especially windows.

I'm sometimes also struck anew by my childhood fear of standing right beside my bed when I've been out of the house for a long stretch of time. Some silly part of me remains convinced that someone will be hiding underneath, waiting to grab me.

Darkness in general, but that isn't an uncommon fear. Still, when it's pitch black my mind gets the better of me and sometimes I imagine someone or something waiting in the shadows. Like you I don't particularly like to look out windows when it's dark, and I still have an irrational fear of something hiding under my bed. I don't like to leave my arms or legs dangling over the side of the bed for this reason.

So many things, tbh. Teeth rotting/falling out has already been mentioned, so has eye injuries, and I have all of that but I'm also terrified of elevators. And heights in general, but most people are at least okay with elevators, I think. I get on an elevator and almost have a panic attack because I'm sure the thing is going to fall while I'm in it. (Or at the very least malfunction and leave me stuck inside it for hours while I hyperventilate.)

I'm also afraid of being robbed and/or murdered in my own home. There HAVE been a couple of local incidents that made this fear worse (a man getting shot in the middle of the day right after answering his door), but it's probably still something I shouldn't think about so much.

Any kind of end of the world scenario where I wouldn't be able to regularly get my meds. If whatever brought on the end of the world didn't kill me right away, I'd be in so much pain without my meds, I'd beg someone to kill me :/

I don't have a fear so much as an irrational urge/i guess fear i might give in to.... There's this huge, deep, steep concrete storm drain ditch thing right outside the grocery store i use. And the turn into the parking lot isn't marked or anything, no reflective little dealies stuck into the ground.... I keep picturing me driving my car and turning too soon and *bam*, down we go, nose-first, and how much that'll hurt.

when I look down from a high point I think of myself jumping off it for some reason

I'm afraid of changing lihtbulbs lest someone flips a switch and I get electrocuted to death

getting my limbs caught in a garbage disposal

and when I was eight or nine...

-I feared that there was one bad word you could say that would make everyone in the world hate you
-I feared that I would see a phone and randomly want to dial 911 when it was not an emergency
- I saw a fire drill switch in the halls and was always afraid I would turn it on when I passed it. At one point this fear upset me so much they had to call my parents.

Yeah.......anxiety disorders suck balls...

I'm afraid of crying people.
It's less of a thing nowadays, but when I was younger I could literally run away from a crying person instead of comforting them. That's so embarrassing.

I am afraid that one day, I am going to be overcome by some kind of madness and kill my cats. Sometimes, when one of them and a sharp or heavy object are both near me at the same time, or when one of them is near the stairs, or when one of them is nearby when I'm pouring tea, I get really freaked out and have to leave the room.

When I was a kid (about 13), I saw the start of The Blob, I watched it until part where The Blob fell from the ceiling and started eating that teenager.
Anyway for months afterwards I had my covers pulled over my head in bed at night (not that it would have stopped The Blob from getting me if it was real)


Anyway, saw The Blob recently and boy are there some terrible effects in there, but it didn't freak me out.

Zombies, I cannot watch a zombie film without going into a panic at night when I'm left alone, the last time I watched one(it was a group thing with friends) I spent the whole night rearranging my room. Incidentally that's how my best friend found out how wigged out I am by them.

Bodies of water I can't see the bottom of, I always seem to think some big sea monster is going to come up from the depths and eat me.

And mirrors, I do not like mirrors at all. Especially at night, if I have to walk past one I make sure that I can't see my reflection in it.
