That is club verge. To get into and see club verge you have to pay real money. Um, so, did you spend real money on the site? Oh, no, wait, stupid me. I bet someone posted pictures somewhere.

This is the first time I've seen it. Club verge looks like shit.

I honestly don't care that I still give them traffic even though I don't give them money. Yeah, Gaia's not as good as it used to be but that's how it goes. *shrug* If other people love Gaia more now let them. I don't see a big deal with them liking something you don't. We're all different. And you need to stop guilt-tripping yourself for stupid reasons. It's just a doll website. Really. There are more important things. If you still enjoy parts of the site then unabashedly enjoy it. If you find you just hate everything then do yourself a favor and move on.

I've been on Gaia for 10 years now, though my visits have become less and less frequent over the last few months. After logging on for the first time in a little over a month, I guess I haven't missed much at all.

But hey, if people want to spend that much on the site, they've got every right to IMHO.

Damn. $500 for an item on Gaia. It's like the people on Diablo III who spent hundreds of real dollars on items. No thanks.

I haven't been on Gaia in AGES. I remember spending so much time picking out outfits for my character and making my profile all pretty. I liked the RPG game and the chat. It was fun.

If you still like Gaia, try not to pay attention to all that monetary stuff. Just enjoy the game for what it is. If you can avoid club verge and such do so. Maybe do more foruming. The forums were always fun to me.

The only reason I ever go back to Gaia is because I like competing in TekTek competitions and making them for people.

What's not to like about old gaia though?

It wasn't overrun by ads and you only needed the gold earned in-game to buy stuff. There was more of a focus on mingling with the community and the events were special because they were spaced out more

Now it's super cluttered, ads everywhere, and --really?-- $500 in real money for something in-game? Fuck that.

I hate to say it, but I think users are as much to blame as the site staff. Not everyone of course, but people on the site have already proven if it's labeled "exclusive" someone will buy it no matter how high the price. If no one had bought anything the first time they sold 50$ items it never would have gotten this far. As long as people are willing to pay the site is going to keep exploiting it.

Shit, I just logged in to my account earlier today. Pretty much everything I did before on the site is dead and inactive.
I wish I could delete it all, but I spent so many years and actually payed real money for some of the items I have.
I even have an album on photobucket with all the art I commissioned.

Holy shit, Gaia's changed. I can't remember the last time I logged in, but yeah, I see your point. The place has become increasingly expensive and sadly I was never very good at playing the marketplace. :/

I'm not happy with the all the money stuff they've been doing. I want to ignore it, but they shove it in your face all the freaking time. I just can't leave though because of nostalgia, and I like Towns 2.0 and I really want to see what they do with it.

I gave up on Gaia long ago. When they started giving out the "Free GC" for doing surveys and crap, the people who knew how to take advantage of it did ruthlessly, while the rest of us were lucky to get pennies for filling out a survey. I think that threw the whole thing on it's head. Normal users not willing to exploit every possible avenue or cough up real money couldn't compete or come close to attaining the items they wanted. Such a sad thing since I signed up for Gaia at the very beginning! The site is pretty unrecognizable to me now. I moved on to Menewsha. I like it there, though I'm not on as much as I'd like.

Secret 2 - Gaia Online

I don't want to leave Gaia, because I have a lot of nostalgia and a lot of effort invested in it, but I absolutely HATE what it's become.

The "Gaia Cash" (real money) items have gotten insane. For point of reference: 100 Gaia Cash points = $1 USD. Some of these items are $50 and $100 and $500.

I hate myself for coming back here. I don't spend any real money on the site, but I hate giving it any traffic after it's gotten this way.

Bonus secret: I hate the apologists for this kind of price exorbitancy, which Gaia has a TON of. It pisses me off. The more it's supported, the worse it's gonna get.

Yeah I gave up on that site years ago. It's like you save up all these points to get something you want and then the site jacks it all up with this new pay for gold, so what you have isn't worth anything anymore. Either you have to pay a shitload of real money or you can't even compete.

It used to be such a fun and cool place. Now it's a fucking cluttered mess filled with cash grabs for every possible thing. Horrible.

I didn't mind back when they sold monthly collectables (because it was optional and you could just use your in-game gold to buy one because lots of people just sold them on the marketplace anyways), but now all the fun is sucked out once they put a price tag on everything.

I agree. I visit it sometimes for nostalgia sake and change my costume which is hard earned now I have a gold account of 90k and it's still not enough for anything nice. I've spent a total of 10 bucks on the site in the 10 years I've been on the site and it makes me really mad that the activities that you can do WITHOUT suggestion of spending money are rare.

The prices are crazy too showing that the makers have really got the fame into their heads and only care about the people who spend money instead of building venues for the non-spenders.

I've been on Gaia since 2006, and at first I was totally cool with throwing them a 2.50 donation now and then to get that month's cool shiny new thing, but seeing the prices (even when on sale) that cost more than the 4 new tires I just put on my car... nope. I work the Marketplace, I play the games, I earn my gold the old fashioned way, and am currently sitting on several mil. I've got enough to buy what I want, but... I've turned into Scrooge McDuck. Wish I could be like this IRL. Then again, if adding to conversations IRL gave me money, it'd be easier. *lol* I understand the need for ads and fundraising (the bigger a site grows, the more people/equipment are needed to run it) but... this feels like it's getting out of hand. :( Thankfully I'm content with my avatar and her loot, and I'm cool with just being an old fogey poking around talking about the old days.
