LOL

You know what I find hilarious? Everybody who is responding comments like "nobody really cares about OCs" , "I don't read OCs because canon characters" (which was already addressed in the damn secret itself) or "super sensitive OC authors in this thread are thinking they'r superior" or shit like that are actually just proving the OP's point. That a lot of fandom is unable to see past a stereotype. I'm not a big fan of OC fics but at least I'm not so threatened by them that I can't "allow" a peaceful conversation about them.

It's not a matter of the OP 'not allowing opinions' but more, THEY ALREADY ADDRESSED the typical "but people don't like it" or "but some people don't want to read it", "but it should be warned for" etc. So some of you are readdressing things ALREADY TALKED ABOUT. Yes there HAVE been come peaceful conversations but its very rare that it comes up without "but sometimes it can suck"

Thank you.

I don't even like most OCs but I respect the writer's right to create them, to post them, to discuss them. I don't feel threatened by them. The importance of the freedom to express ourselves in fandom without being dictated to by others because they don't like something is far more important.

Yeah

I find it alarming how people's response here is "go make your own community then".

I wish people would be more open minded. When I was young I found historical fiction a big yawn, but I didn't go around making fun of it and telling people who write it that nobody cared and they were "pathetic" to write it.

Live and let live.

You know what *I* find hilarious? Most of the people supporting the OP (in such similarly worded and typed habitual manner as the OP, ffs) need to passive-aggressively imply that fandom should be able to see past their stupid, insipid love for canon characters and embrace OCs accordingly. Thanks for that condescending and slightly derisive stereotyping of fans, OP.

You speak for yourself, I speak for myself, and somebody else speaking up to say they do or don't like OCs doesn't mean I have to shut up and stay quiet because they already said something I agree with. Fandom is opinionated, and one person (like the OP) does not get to tell people to shut up and not voice their opinion, whatever it is, just because you think being the minority = OC-lovers are oppressed. NOBODY IS OPPRESSING YOU, OP. YOU VOICED AN OPINION. SOME PEOPLE WILL VOICE A DIFFERENT OPINION. THIS MEANS THEY ARE DISAGREEING WITH YOU. DO WHAT YOU WANT WHERE YOU WANT, BUT BE AWARE OTHERS WILL, TOO. DEAL WITH IT, DON'T EXPECT PEOPLE TO CHANGE TO SUIT YOUR NEEDS.
