Re: Sorry for ranting about my awful job all the time!!!

Disagree; venting and shit-talking about terrible people you have to be around for work purposes is normal. It's how you go back the next day and treat them like civilized humans. I've found it's people who are all ~no drama~, conflict=bad, gotta never talk negative about anything, who cause the most toxic social trainwrecks over time.

Also, part of being a good teacher is having some authority over your class. When I was at school, my least favourite teachers were often wet blankets who'd let everyone fuck around so I'd never be able to learn anything interesting and never felt rewarded for all the effort I was putting in. You're not accommodating 'each and every student' if you're devoting all your effort to coddling a couple of jackasses; you're just wasting all the other kids' time.

venting is one thing; openly mocking people is really shitty though. there are constructive ways to blow off steam or talk about problems.

authority i agree with, but your primary job as a teacher is to teach. i think teachers need to keep this in mind. if there's a student who legitimately doesn't want to do work and is being entirely unreasonable after numerous diplomatic efforts then yeah, forget them. not everybody is open to being taught in certain environments and there's only so much you can do about that. accommodating everybody doesn't mean you need to leave others hanging though. time management really helps here. from my experience, students who have difficulty learning in a classroom setting (or simply don't want to) do a lot better in smaller groups, or one-on-one. there's no need to take up other students' class time on these people; there are more convenient and productive ways to teach those who are more or less harder to teach.
