I'm currently reading this and I don't like it. I can't quite explain why. But it doesn't help that people are currently creaming themselves over it proclaiming that it's a true fandom testament, when it isn't. At least not for me.

I think Cath is a pretty realistic, relatable character, if a bit stiff at times. I absolutely hated the fanfiction reading scene with Levi, though. That was the moment he lost any of his believability. I cringed more during that scene than I did when Cath and her professor talk about fanfiction (for a given definition of talk, anyway). And as far as being a fandom testament...no, no it's not.

i had trouble getting into the book until i accepted that it wasn't about someone's fandom experience and instead about someone's experience growing up while peripherally involved in fandom
