On the subject of 'uncle tom's (from secret 2) Maurissa T is a huge disappointment as both a POC and a woman for getting herself wedged up Joss and Jed's colons.

So your are upset a POC isn't an idiot?

Yeah. Your upsest a POC isnt' stupid.

Because when you have a chance to work under a guy that's made several high-monkeymaking series, won awards, who has one of the biggest movies ever... as an actress, the only sensible move is to say YES.

Turning him down is what you call a stupid career move. The kind you can regret for the rest of your life. For that matter, in general turning legit high profile work down in the acting business is stupid period.

Turning him down is what I call a career move with integrity.

Integrity vs getting work is a pretty easy decision for most people. Hint: Most people don't choose integrity.

That is not integrity. It's an example of what Wilhelm Stekel was talking about when he said "The mark of the immature man is that he wants to die nobly for a cause, while the mark of the mature man is that is wants to live humbly for one."

Say Joss asked you to work on a show with him tomorrow. You could turn him down, listing all your reasons you dislike him, then go tell everyone what you did. What would happen then? You'd feel good for an hour or two maybe because in your head, you did something, but in reality, you'd have helped nobody and only benefited your ego. Nothing would change, but you would still have something to complain about and hate. If that's what you would want.

Or you could accept the offer, and once you're working with him, show him a different/better way to portray X-situation/character so that the end product is something that can be at least a step in the direction of making things better. Maybe it wouldn't be perfect, but at the end of the project, you can be proud of yourself for being the change you want to see in the world, big or small. If that's what you would want.

Agreed wholeheartedly.

The big jumps are easiest to see, but a lot of small steps will get you further in the end.

I'm assuming there;s some love or something going on there, too, since she married Jed.

What's everyone's major malfunction with Joss anyway?
I feel like you're the one to ask.

Also pming you this cause I responded so late.

Folks (meaning social justice warriors) have decided that Joss is misogynist.

They'll cite various things, but the biggest offenses I'm aware of are: The Buffybot from Buffy, the entire concept of Dollhouse, and now Mal and Inara interact on Firefly.

Yes, how dare that WOC make her own decisions that don't line up with your personal beliefs. She should know her place.

*In case it wasn't obvious, I'm being sarcastic.

Oh, I'll bite. Why does that sound like an impression of Joss Whedon?

Ah, the catch-22 of being female and/or non-white: no matter what choices you make, someone will be freaking out over it and telling you how terrible you are.

Successful? You sucked up to the man. Failure? You're letting the man win. Landed [job]? You're a race- and/or gender-traitor. Landed [other job]? You're reinforcing a stereotype. Decided to be a stay-at-home mother? You're buttressing the patriarchy.

How about this: people should be allowed to do whatever the fuck they want with their lives without some asshat coming out of the woodwork to tell them that it's wrong. And folks who claim to be "progressive" or "social activists" should stop telling minorities what to do with their lives, because that is no fucking different from men telling women what to do or white people telling black people what to do.
