I don't know, it was a pretty tricked out van, it could easily have hair styling equipment.

As for me, I just hated Ward so far. Skye was...nothing special but nothing that bothered me. Just another obvious Whedon type. Plus, it was only one episode. I have a hard time judging a character fully off of the pilot, there's always so much that changes as the writing/acting/show gets settled.

Hoping she dies

[personal profile] insanenoodlyguy 2013-10-01 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
My hope is that when Coulson has his LMD* freakout moment, Skye is the sacrifice to show the team it's serious and be a cliffhanger for season 2. Then we can look back and love her... death.

(life model decoy, for those that don't read the comics, it's a plausible in-universe theory that he's "alive" because he died... and a very good robot just has his brain pattern)

Yes please. Kill her, kill her soon.

With everyone going LMD immediately, I'm kind of hoping it's something else. Like a secretly horrible operation or something. Like they have a big line of clones of everybody just in case you die. It's not a twist if everyone and their mother knows it.

I still think there's something shady in her past that will be revealed at the end of the season. This whole Wave broadcast thing she had going is covering something far more sinister, and SHIELD knows it. Coulson brought her on to keep an eye on her, that's why she could hack into SHIELD.

If it turns out that what we see is what we got, wow, they really went for the lowest common denominator when they made her character, didn't they? There has to be more to Skye than meets the eye, because if there's not the writers didn't even try.

That said, aside from Coulson, who profited from some left-over love from the movies, and Agent Retired-But-Drives-The-Bus I didn't care for any character on the show. The scientists were somewhere between boring and annoying, and the male lead completely bland. The pilot really sucked.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-02 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, pretty much confirmed in tonight's episode. 'The Rising Tide' apparently isn't just Skye in her van - she seems to be a double agent infiltrating SHIELD. (Or at least she *thinks* she's infiltrating SHIELD)

Our main criticism, character-wise, was "male prettyface and female prettyface are just so boring". Plus, why do all the women have the exact same haircut? You know that slightly teased haircut that you can only ever have if the stylist touches it up before every shot?

I wasn't head over heals for Skye but I don't dislike her either, we've only had one episode anyway so it's going to take more than that for me to figure out how I feel about her yet.

I quite like the science duo as far as it stands atm.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-02 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
two episodes and I cannot stand her. I`m starting to enjoy May, though.

Yeeeeeeeep. Her and Ward were about the worst things in an already bad pilot.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-02 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
It was the science duo who annoyed me. Talk about a Whedon cliché.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-02 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
I say this as a long time Whedon stan but I didn't really like the pilot, I don't know if it was Whedon, or Marvel, or network tv but it just didn't grab me at all.

I didn't particularly hate her but none of the young actors grabbed me, only the older actors did a somewhat decent job.

I hope it'll get better, I think it will if given a chance, and the young actors may get better with time.

The third or fourth coming of Willow and/or Fred.

So old.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-02 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
Thankfully if Whedon is up to his old tricks then the likelihood of her surviving the show is non-existent.

I grew up in a home without a working shower and with limited hot water so I most often washed my hair in a big bowl of water, or the kitchen sink, using a very small pan to scoop the water over my scalp. It works fine, and a big water storage tank & a place to refill it plus a camping stove isn't a big ask.

"Handful of cliches stuck together" is Whedon's stock in trade when it comes to characterization. It's just that he usually chooses cliches that people like and cliches which indulge his hang-up on petite, ass-kicking women.

Quick question: WAS she living out of the van?

[personal profile] nyxelestia 2013-10-02 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
I may have missed this part, but was it stated that she lived out of that van? Or was that just like her center of operations but she lived elsewhere? I kind of assumed that she had someplace else to live, and we just never see it. :\

Anyway, I agree her character was not the greatest, but I still liked her. That said, I know not everyone did, and it seems that frustrations with her appearance, character, and personality are quite common, so I'm not sure why this is supposed to be a secret?

That said, the whole "her dialogue isn't witty" complaint confuses me. I mean...isn't it supposed to be not witty? That's what I thought, that she's trying to be witty but isn't and that's a part of her character. *shrugs*

So glad I'm not the only who feels that way about her.

I bet she's gonna get with Ward. Seems like the only reason she's even there apart from her hacker "skills" of course.
