I can see that. Sheppard was one character that I really liked to read exploring different labels with. It is of course in the talent of the writer, but I feel like the character could fit several different theories (bisexual, closeted, gay, asexual, demi, etc), where a lot of the time I feel like writers are stretching and really changing the character to fit whatever label they may be writing.

Agreed, you could read a lot of things into his character.

Oh. My.

I think you honestly don't want to start anything but-

I don't see this ending well.

Also yay, Stargate secret!

OP here, and believe me, neither did I.
Apparently and fortunately both of us were mistaken.

I feel like this comment actually perfectly illustrates why nobody gives demisexuality any credit as a real identity: because someone can have these patterns of sexual attraction and behavior and still fit perfectly well into existing romantic/sexual narratives without needing an extra fancy label.

I'm hesitant to even comment because of how little I want to get into this right now, but IA.

YAY McShep secret

(Anonymous) 2013-10-02 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
That's my OTP.

/Sheppard's written as emotionally constipated (probably moreso than he is in canon) so fics frequently characterize him as romantically reticent.

He looks so hot in this pic that it makes me want to revisit my fave McShep stories.

I looked it up on Wiki but I don't understand how demisexuality is close to asexuality?

(Anonymous) 2013-10-02 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
Where did you get that they were close? None of the comments or the secret say that. Can you be more specific?

I always really liked the strange Shep/ Pairings - like Shep/Atlantis... This guy really was paired with just about everyone(/thing) on that show

(Anonymous) 2013-10-02 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
Who is this guy?

(Anonymous) 2013-10-02 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
The actor is Joe Flanigan.
The character is John Sheppard from Stargate Atlantis. The show was on SciFi (when it was SciFi) for 5 years, ending in 2009.
The HUGE slash pairing of the day was McShep which paired this guy with Rodney McKay, arrogant but evidently lovable genius.

No comment on demisexiness. Holy hell, he's fuckin adorbs.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-02 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
He had great faces. I think there was an LJ for a while dedicated to the faces he made. Would have been interesting to see tumblr if it had been around during the heyday of Stargate.

I'm baffled this is such a controversial topic.

To me, looking back, it does appear to be a genuine pattern in fiction, and the only reason we didn't name it back when was that demisexuality wasn't a Thing To Be Discussed -- even asexuality didn't come up too often, or the fact it's on on one end and high-volume sexuality on the other, with demisexuality in between.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-02 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
I've seen alot of asexual John fics. I thought it was kindof a trend for a while.
