One of the main reasons why I just go for the fanarts. I haven't seen so much about skin colour and sexuality anywhere else in my life.

As with a lot of "bad" fandoms, the fandom actually isn't too bad if you stay off the main thoroughfares and find your own circle of friends. I just block and TS anyone who insists that you're a vile racist if you picture Cecil as a white guy (seriously, "go kill yourself" is not a productive race dialogue), and my WTNV fandom experience is quite good.

There are transcripts, though I don't know if they stay up-to-date. And I've found the fandom to be just fine.

It's like one of the Homestuck fans who just draws troll porn and doesn't follow the comic. They certainly exist but they are weird and suck.

I know how you feel. I've given up on WTNV because my attention kept wandering. I'm usually okay with podcasts or short stories, but it's like half of it I find delightful and half of it I can't pay attention to even after repeated tries. The poetry week episode was especially terrible for me, so anything like that goes in one ear and out the other.

Read the transcripts while listening to the relevant episode? That way your attention can be focused on the words even if your attention wanders from the audio.

And I've found out the fandom is fine! only, Thou Must Not Go To The Tags at tumblr, and seriously, it's like when they said all that awful stuff about Homestuck all over again. Indeed there are some people that really ought to step away from the computer, but most of the fandom is quite chillax'd.

I agree with everyone who's saying "go read the transcripts," but if you really want some way to not zone out on the actual podcast, have you tried listening while doing something else? I get super bored with most audio unless I'm either driving or doing a sudoku or actively eating dinner or something else low-brainpower. Paradoxially, it actually helps me focus more on the podcast than when I'm just sitting there listening.

Maybe try reading the transcripts and listen to the weather/music? It might not be the same, but if you've listened to Cecil's voice, you can't pretend it's him talking in your mind.

Listen to them while cleaning, cooking, sewing, working on your car, gardening, walking, etc. I can't listen to them while I'm just sitting, there's no way. I have a bit of a drive to work so I tend to listen to them in the car. But once I have something to keep my body busy, I could listen to it for hours at a time.

My auditory processing leaves a lot to be desired, so I was kind of hesitant at first, too. But I'm really glad I gave it a chance!

When I'm all caught up, I'm probably going to read transcripts or poke around on the Wiki to fill in any gaps in my comprehension.
