Pop quiz: what does AO3 stand for?

I'll give you a moment.

With a name like that, is it any surprise that readers there would have a sense of entitlement?

HA, no. Since it's 'our own' in the sense that it's run by fic writers and fandom people who aren't going to go nutso one day and start deleting communities/journals at random one day.

I think you're fogetting the utter douchey-ness of non-fan-run sites when it comes to sudden 'think of the children!!' moments.

I agree.
Re: FF.net; I've never used it as an archive as my work is Adult, overall, but friends of mine do use it, and have talked about the entitlement of readers/reviewers. I've followed their complaints and seen comments that make me boggle. It's not concrit about the writing, but rather moans that so-and-so would 'never do that', and people following novel length stories only to whinge that it's not what they want. I would be inclined to tell them to pop off and find something they do like rather than waste their time trying to influence what the author is writing. I've never seen that on AO3, and also when a friend of mine had a genuine complaint, she received a reply from the AO3 staff within 24 hours. They took it seriously, resolved it for her and were very supportive.

Exactly. The level of quality stories is a variable, in my mind, as any other archive site, the *users* at AO3 at least don't seem to be as petty and ridiculous as a lot of other users.

And yes - the staff kicks ass.

You're silly

Well, isn't it nice that YOU are the one who decides whether you join or not then.
