Like my thing is rabbit rescue. All right, people say, so there are a lot of rabbits who are not properly cared for and a ton get abandoned, especially after Easter. Even those who don't scornfully go "They're just RABBITS" and understand why I care sometimes don't know why I'm not supporting dog and cat rescues, since there are so many MORE dogs and cats that are mistreated in the US. That doesn't mean there are NO rabbits being mistreated, and if a few of us who have that passion don't help them "because there are more dogs and cats in need", who will help them?
So go with what your passion tells you. All causes are in need of someone, whether big or small.

It's also possible to care about more than one thing at once, and it's a very GOOD thing in my opinion to follow through with those issues that really move you and worry you on an emotional level. Doesn't mean you can't understand the importance of greater social issues that affect more people, but nobody said you are required to devote a certain level of emotional energy into them.

Or at least that holds true here in Australia, where adoption laws are totally ridiculous.

It's still irritating when people dismiss a living thing just because it isn't a common house pet, or a panda bear :/

Feral animals (non-native animals that have gone wild) are a common problem down here, and I it probably doesn't count any less for rabbits than it does for cats, camels or cane toads.
