Yeah... when Coulson walked back on and they gave some two-line handwave about him being clinically dead for seven seconds or something... I just.

If your canon mimics the plot and handwave of a good half of your canon's fanfics? And most of those fanfics are assumed to be badly done because of that thing? It might be time to rethink your canon.

Uh, you did realize that there's a whole subplot on HOW he's back and to quote Maria Hill "He can never know", right? Or did you just turn your TV off after that scene?

Just because there is a setup for a potential subplot does not mean it is a good subplot or even executed well (unlike Phil in the movie, then he was executed well).

They haven't executed it at all, yet. Well or poorly. The subplot has been set up, but has not yet been put into play. If you don't like what they do once they do it, fine. If you think the set up was lame, also fine. But complaining about something being bad before that thing even exists is an awfully unfair standard.

Sadly, complaining about something being bad before it exists is pretty much fandom's standard MO. Consider me unsurprised it applies here too. *shrugs*
