But Jesse hates him and his family hates him. The only people who know about his family getting the money...are people that hate him.

1. If that was true, then that just makes his actions even more selfless -- doing right by his loved ones even though they won't know he was doing right by them.

2. Even then, the mutual nod between Jesse and Walter at the end showed that there was some understanding, and I think Walter left on as good terms with his wife as any. That just leaves Junior, and while he has raw feelings now, he'll probably come to forgive his father in time.

1) No. He just did it for his ego.

2) Jesse pities him if anything. That head nod was more of a, "I am a better man than you asshole. Have fun dying alone!" His wife still hates him. And I doubt Junior will ever forgive him. He is a demon in the eyes of his son. The man who lied to him, attacked his mother, and kidnapped his sister.

His actions are not selfless and never were, the fact that his family got money out of it doesn't mean he gave them anything. Especially Jesse, who he blackmailed into getting involved in the first place. None of that shit would have ever happened to Jesse if Walt hadn't put him in that position, the fact that Walt didn't murder him is such a low standard for redemption it's ridiculous.

I seriously doubt Junior will ever forgive Walt. He has absolutely no reason to. His experience after this will be trying to escape living under the shadow of a publicly known drug kingpin and murderer. It's more likely that he will change his name legally and keep the information of his parentage from everyone but those closest to him.

Are you serious? It wasn't a rescue mission, it was a murder mission. He tried to have Jesse killed by the Nazis, then they didn't do it and he believed Jesse was working with them. When he saw Jesse he changed his mind, but that isn't rescuing. That's just changing his mind about letting Jesse die with them.

Just because Jesse and his family hate him does not completely take away the value of Walt's last actions. Is he 100% redeemable? Oh, God, no, he deserved to die but there was still a slight humanistic quality left in him at the end of the series. I just wouldn't go so far as to say he died as the hero like the OP stated.
