No he didn't. He died alone and hated by everyone.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-11 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
He still saved Jesse and ensured his family would be taken care of.

But Jesse hates him and his family hates him. The only people who know about his family getting the money...are people that hate him.

Wait, so dying alone and hated means that a character can't be redeemed now?
kaijinscendre: (Default)

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2013-10-12 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-11 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Well this should be fun

(Anonymous) 2013-10-11 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Me too, I was glad he was able to prove the haters and Skyler fans wrong.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-11 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
too much, anon

(Anonymous) 2013-10-11 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't even watch the show and this is too obvious a blatant wank bait.

I'm so relieved he was able to destroy the one ring, I really thought for a moment there that he'd give in and keep it.

Yeah, that final battle for the Elder Wand was pretty intense.

Did you watch a different finale than I did?

Tbh though, I did like that Walt finally admitted that he was doing it for himself. I wouldn't go so far as to say that he redeemed himself or that he was a hero though.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-11 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
...but that's not what happened? doing a couple of non-shitty things doesn't erase the millions of shitty things you did and make you a hero

are you a big snape fan by any chance (although, tbf, I think you could probably make a better case even for him)

(Anonymous) 2013-10-11 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
You could definitely make a better case for Snape. He didn't get Voldemort involved with anyone he wasn't targeting anyway.

I wouldn't call what he did heroic - more like desperate. Everyone hated him, and he was dying anyway (and he tried to get Jesse to kill him to take an easier way out). I do like that he admitted everything he did was for himself, and not (as his refrain often went) for his family.

I see the secret is wank-bait and already some comments are the same, but I'll still put my 2 cents about this.

I think whoever either defends or accuses Walter strongly is missing the point, the point of the show being that evil and good are completely relative.

You can both like and dislike Walt at the beginning because he seems such a good man, but at the same time he's repressed and doing a job he doesn't like and he can't even act confident with his family members.
You can both like and dislike him at the end because he's become what society would deem a monster, he's killed people and he's been horrible to one of the most defenseless human beings on the show because he turned on him, but at the same time you can like that he's still trying in any way to give that money to his former family, that he wants to be true to Skyler before dying and that his good impulse prevails when he sees what's become of Jesse.

I don't know, that last scene with Walt seeing Jesse again seemed to me like he came back to his senses for the last time before dying. As always Jesse has been the emotional trigger.

Btw I love that Jesse has always been the catalyst, the one that brought unexpected change in Walt's life. Being a catalyst, of course, he had to survive the reaction. Oh chemistry, I love you and this show so much.

+1

This comment is good and you should feel good about it.

That part about the catalyst was brilliant. :)

That was brilliant comment. Especially love the catalyst part.

Jesse survived. That's all it took to make me happy.

Same here. The finale could have been complete shit (but it was great, so yay!) and as long as Jesse got out alive, I'd have been fine with it.
