Supernatural

I just started watching SPN, as in, I'm still in Season 1. What episodes should I skip and what episodes are a must-see? Which are your favorites and why? I'd love to hear what you guys think for this noob like me! :)

I didn't get interested in the show until about episode 8. I actually don't remember much of season 1-3, but I've seen seasons 4-8 twice.

My favorite episode is probably season 5 ep 8 "Changing Channels" because it's fun and goofy and not completely depressing and you get to learn something interesting about a character from way back when.

I don't know if I'd skip any episodes because pretty much every episode has something in it that answers something that came before or furthers the overall plot in some way. And, the ones that are filler-y are usually fun ones that you need to watch to break up the sadness.

I'm pretty newbish too since I just watched the whole show last month.

I was going to give you a list of episodes, but so many of them are necessary to understand later seasons. The first and second seasons are the best out of all nine. I don't think there's one I've skipped when I've rewatched. Well, there are two I could do without, because of scenes I find gross...Skin and Bugs I avoid like the plague because of the grossness, although Skin is important for the mythology.

I'm sorry...I can't pick!

My friend got me into Supernatural after the fifth season aired. She helped me watch everything quick so I could catch the sixth season as it aired. She didn't like the first and second seasons much so she deemed much of those unimportant for me to watch. I have since watched them more in depth and I rather like them.
If we only talk about season one: Bugs is pretty bad, that's universally agreed. Route 666 is also infamously bad but the key words here are racist ghost truck so I highly recommend watching that for laughing purposes. The last three episodes of season one are super important. The Benders doesn't do much for plot progression, if I recall correctly, but the case they work is uniquely interesting and probably one of my favorites of the season. Hell House introduces Ed and Harry, recurring characters. Scarecrow introduces Meg, who is pretty important and Shadow deals with her, too. Bloody Mary, Skin, and Home are all really strong episodes. Home is important because it goes into the Winchester backstory. Provenance has Sarah, who everyone seems to love. I don't find her particularly compelling, but it's a good episode. They're pretty much all really good episodes, but certainly in the first season, compared to later ones, there are way more episodes that can stand alone.

Why are you skipping episodes? That's not really a good idea, especially for the early seasons (up till season 5ish, they're still referring back to things from the beginning seasons. There's a lot of background involved.)
