How wrong is it to masturbate while your roommate sleeps in the same room as you? I'm really quiet and she's sleeping pretty deep, and I haven't done it in over two months...

(Anonymous) 2013-10-13 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
As long as you aren't being a creep about it, I don't think it's wrong at all.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-13 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
on a scale of 1-10 I'd give it a 5.5

I wonder if you have any free time while she's in class that you can do it? Or maybe you guys can write a masturbation agreement of some kind

(Anonymous) 2013-10-13 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess I could schedule it better. I have gap tomorrow that I could totally turn into a 'me time' gap. I'll just have to be quick getting home :)

(Anonymous) 2013-10-13 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Sa

Lol what do you mean by masturbation agreement?

(Anonymous) 2013-10-13 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
you let her know that sometimes you need to masturbate and she says yeah okay that's cool

or you have a code where you leave an object hanging on the door and that means don't come in

(Anonymous) 2013-10-13 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, that sounds doable, I suppose. I don't know if she would be OK with that, might have to wait a little, but definitely worth giving a shot

It's fine if you don't get caught. Are you near enough 100% certain you wont get caught?

How would you feel if you woke up to her wanking?

I think a discussion and a system might be the way to go.

Just out of curiosity, where does she do her night moves?

I think a discussion and a system might be the way to go.

This is the worst idea. Do it or don't, but DON'T FUCKING DISCUSS IT

Agreed. Realistically I know people have sex and masturbate, but that doesn't mean I want to talk to near-strangers (or even close friends) about when and where I'm doing it...

[personal profile] dont_be_a_dick 2013-10-14 08:17 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not suggesting they wave a dildo in their room mates face and go "DO YOU SEE THIS? IT NEEDS TO BE INSIDE OF ME AT LEAST TWICE A WEEK. HOW CAN WE MAKE THIS HAPPEN?!?!" but a discreet discussion about alone time might be the way to go. People masturbate. people have sex. owning up to these facts and preparing a system so that you don't wind up with an accidental audience seems a far more mature system than trying to not let your bed creak.

You can't, dunno, take it to the bathroom or something?

I have a friend who was at a party. She ended up sleeping on a friend's sectional and woke up to two people on the other part of the sectional having sex. It was pretty rude. Whereas, if they'd just gone to the bathroom, nobody would've cared. This isn't quite the same thing, but there is a similar principle at work here.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-14 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
Judging by the answers above, uh. Going anon for this one.

It's not wrong if you aren't being a creep, and:
- You're actually able to keep yourself silent as a cemetery at midnight.
- You know for sure her sleeping is usually VERY deep.

I've shared a room with my brother for years and haven't been discovered yet, precisely because of this clausules. (Disclaimer because someone WILL think this: NO, my feelings for my brother are STRICTLY platonical. I don't even like guys.)

It's really sad but I can't come if I'm not lying down and in the dark, so shower/bathroom/any other place masturbation is ruled out. My brother goes to sleep VERY early, and I'm a night owl, so he pretty much is always in the room whenever I get the urge (completely zonked out). I kind of do not have another option, because he doesn't want to talk about it and the last time I attempted to, he stated he needs his sleep, so him staying outside of the room if I hang a sock on the lock or something won't work.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-14 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
Lol, anon. The first time I "successfully masturbated" (had an orgasm) my brother was sleeping in the top bunk. So, I get you. It's nothing incestual. He just happened to be there.

Turn off the lights and lie down on the floor? Maybe grab a towel if the tile's too cold?

LISTEN TO ME: DO NOT TALK TO HER

[personal profile] chardmonster 2013-10-14 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
DO NOT. I REALIZE IDIOTS HERE ARE TELLING YOU TO BUT THAT IS A TERRIBLE IDEA

YOU WILL BE "THE ROOMMATE WHO ASKED ME WHEN SHE CAN MASTURBATE, HEY, DO YOU KNOW ______ NEEDS TO MASTURBATE SO OFTEN SHE HAD TO ASK ME? LOL! HEY, HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT MY GROSS ROOMMATE? SHE'S PROBABLY A LESBIAN PERVERT!"

THIS PERSON IS YOUR ROOMMATE. THEY ARE NOT YOUR CLOSE FRIEND. THEY ARE JUST. YOUR. ROOMMATE. AND I DO NOT SUGGEST TRUSTING THEM THAT FAR. HELL, EVEN IF THEY ARE ACTUALLY A CLOSE FRIEND YOU SHOULD PROBABLY NOT SAY ANYTHING BECAUSE THIS SORT OF THING TURNS CLOSE FRIENDS INTO TRAITORS REAL QUICK.

You probably should do it when she isn't there. But doing it while she's deeply asleep isn't a horrible crime. The dumb thing would be TALKING TO HER ABOUT IT EVER

Sorry for the caps but this is important.

FWIW I'm going with Chard on this one.

Masturbation is just one of those topics where being mature and speaking openly might sound good in theory but isn't. Even people who want to think of themselves as sex positive and liberated are most likely going to have hangups if their roommate asks if it's okay to masturbate in the same room as them while they sleep or want to set up a system that will force them acknowledge that their roommate masturbates.

You're being a dick

I REALIZE IDIOTS HERE ARE TELLING YOU TO

Please lets not be dicks.

As to your point... So what? Assuming their roommate actually is of the age of 12 (In which case OP I recommend you NOT masturbate in the same room as them) They're going to spread rumours about someone masturbating? They're going to tell everyone you're a pervert? So the shit what? it really is the kind of thing you can get ahead of by being open with it. People masturbate. most of the people they would tell masturbate. who the hell really cares?

You mean well, but this standpoint is so naive it's actually kind of endearing.

People are dicks, dude/dudette.

They're going to spread rumours about someone masturbating? They're going to tell everyone you're a pervert? So the shit what?

It's all fun and progress until someone gets Social Deathed

Re: LISTEN TO ME: DO NOT TALK TO HER

[personal profile] dont_be_a_dick 2013-10-14 02:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Social Deathed? for spelunking in the lady cave? I can honestly not envisioning this happening outside of really young immature people, the 50's, or the more religious communities. People are dicks, yes, and I do not ever recommend underestimating the level of dicker a person is capable of, but really I don't think there's any society a sexually active person would want to be a part of that has a "No masturbating" rule. I stand by my "So what" statement.

Okay, the naivete kinda just circled around cute and got kind of worrisome instead.

Do you talk to people outside the internet? That is, people outside a tight circle that hangs out around the same Internet spaces you do?
fingalsanteater: (Default)

[personal profile] fingalsanteater 2013-10-14 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
I used to do it. I mean, if you are quiet and you know the other person is sleeping, I don't see anything wrong with it. I don't think it's creepy.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-14 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
I used to, too.

Thanks for making feel less creepy. Or at least, not the only one who's so creepy.

I'd do it when she wasn't around if you have the chance at all, but as someone who never had any privacy whatsoever as a child and had to share a room with her brothers until she was depressingly old, if you don't... ...sometimes you gotta' do what you gotta' do.
