Listen.

Words mean things. When you start saying every little annoying thing an asshole does is RAPEY you're diminishing the experiences of actual victims while simultaneously disarming your fellow women against mere assholes.

are you not reading the linked articles of actual victims showing cards of the things their rapists said to them that are near identical to the lyrics

If only we could do proper sociology with cards of things in pictures.

I have literally had someone tell me "you know you want it" about a cupcake. That person was my mom.

I'm not really trying to defend Thicke here. I'm saying WORDS MEAN THINGS

Re: How is Blurred Lines rapey?

(Anonymous) 2013-10-16 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
and i'm saying you're denying it being rapey when it's pretty fucking rapey

And I'm saying it isn't. If this dumbass song by a creepy guy is rapey then The Room is rapey.

stop fucking comparing rape culture to offering cupcakes and stupid movies you literal moron.

the fact that you're ignoring the comment linking to the article about actual victims and the lyrics to the song has me convinced you're just trolling.

I read it. I read it the first time it was passed around tumblr, actually. I disagree with it. Disagreement is a thing. We are part of a Disagreement Culture.

what the fuck is there to disagree with
insanenoodlyguy: (Default)

You're flawed persepctive

[personal profile] insanenoodlyguy 2013-10-17 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
You believe that article makes you correct. You agree with that article. That doesn't mean it's opinion is now objective fact. At no point in the song does it say something like "You're only hitting me in the face as I pin you down cause your a tease" or "stop struggling and it will be over faster."

Obviously you choose to take something from the song, but you are assuming there's only one thing to take.

All, I know is that is damn near made me crash my car when I first heard it as it triggered my PTSD; therefore, I consider it dangerous. I now know to change the station, but just hearing the first few cords can trigger an attack now.

Though, it still isn't as bad as that stupid milk commercial where they pour milk in one bowl of cereal that moans, 'Oh yeah,' while they pour orange juice in the one next to it and it screams, 'What are you doing? No.'

I used to drink milk everyday, and now I can't see it in the store without my stomach turning. That one brought on an attack that left me crying off and on all day long—which makes Blurred Lines pretty minor in comparison, but I'm never going to accidentally run into the milk commercial (at least I hope not) while driving 60 mph down a highway.

Note: I have turned to listening to only cd's in my car, since I can't trust my radio anymore. I know that 'Sorry my PTSD was triggered by an misogynist asshole, isn't going to be very good defensive.'

I'm not trying to be mean, but damn, I hope you're seeing some sort of therapist about that because a milk commercial and the OPENING chords of a song should NOT be triggering you. Especially since it seems like you're saying it's the fault of a song on the radio and a milk commercial on a TV that you're being triggered.

Get it in hand or you're not going to be able to leave your domicile before too long.

Chard &co. get off on thinking they're edgy and ~unlike those other crazy Tumblr folk~ so don't even bother

Stop comparing stupid songs to rape culture, you troll.

Re: How is Blurred Lines rapey?

(Anonymous) 2013-10-16 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I hate this argument against it. Anything that was ever said by a rapist now implies rape in every situation? Or even just in sexual situations? No, what implies rape is the lack of consent, and nothing says lack of consent in this song.

From another perspective, the song appears to be about the singer being quite, quite sure she wants it (to the point that he must be deaf blind and insane if he's misreading these signals) based on dually implemented courtship interactions in the club.

Ahh, subjectivity

I think I was agreeing with you guys but I might be misunderstanding. I find the argument that 'the song must be rape because some people's rapists said this to them' to be stupid.

Re: How is Blurred Lines rapey?

(Anonymous) 2013-10-17 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
Because it is. The idea that no one can every say "I know you want it" because rapists say it is ridiculous.

Hm. I clearly remember you saying "I'm in it for the lulz, not this" after you asked for a thread defending rape culture to be frozen.

So, your white knighting that day was really you getting angry that people weren't paying you enough attention, then.

Re: How is Blurred Lines rapey?

I'd add that when you take a serious issue and turn it into a cutesy adjective like "rapey" you're also diminishing the experiences of actual victims. (I know you're not the one who started that here, this is just where I'm commenting.)

Isn't it the OP's word choice?

Read the comment again, and you'll see why you just asked a useless question.

Damn, read your comment and you'll see why people don't like you. Your kneejerk hostility is extremely alienating.
