How is an actress who doesn't share physical characteristics with Dany because NO ONE DOES somehow more fitting than Emilia Clarke, who is fabulous in the role IMO (as someone who LOVES Dany in the books)? Also, I have no idea who this is.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-18 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Ryan Newman. She's 15, which makes her closer to Dany in the books than Emilia Clarke who's 26.

Everyone is older, though (for practical reasons such as working hours etc). Why pick Dany but not Jon or Robb? It's not like Kit Harrington is a better actor than Emilia Clarke.

Also, she's American and the rest of the cast is not?

Basically, what I'm getting out of this is that OP is a teenage girl from the US and wants a better self-insert.

At least she has more than one facial expression.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-19 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
Kit Harrington doesn't smile; he just raises his frown a little.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-19 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Peter Dinklage?

(Anonymous) 2013-10-19 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, I have literally zero desire to watch an actual 15-year-old play out marital rape, pregnancy, miscarriage, the death of her husband, etc. That would just creep me the hell out, regardless of how realistic it was.

(I know Arya and Sansa are played by actual teenagers, but they have it way easier than Daenerys.)

(Anonymous) 2013-10-19 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, Sansa has it so much better, getting her clothes torn off in front of an entire court and then getting brutally beaten. Not to mention constant rape threats, getting married off to a member of the family that murdered half her family and only not getting raped by that guy because he had a shred of human decency. All of this happened while she was 11, after watching her father get murdered. Lucky girl, she clearly has it waaaaaaaay better than Daenerys. Not saying she has it worse, but ... don't compare that shit.

Did you miss the memo where the ayrt was talking about the characters' portrayal in the series?

And also, yes, "almost getting raped but not getting raped" and "actually getting brutally raped" is actually a huge difference when it comes to what an underage actress is legally able to do in a TV series. What about that are you not getting?

There's a TV movie based on a true story starring Eastenders actor Brooke Kinsella as an abused child. She was 13-14 when it was filmed and it included scenes of rape.

I don't know what the laws are in the US, but underage actors are allowed to film adult scenes if they have parental permission.

DA

Slightly offtopic, but didn't Dakota Fanning also portay a character who was raped in a movie at young age? Never seen the movi e myself, but I vaguely recall there being a shitstorm over it.

She did! But the way the scene was filmed was that she was completely alone on set and had very little context for what was going on when they were filming. So they kept her as sheltered from the context as possible.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-19 01:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't know that, so thanks for the information. Keeping her in the dark about the context and have her completely would probably be the best way to handle it .

Having her be completely be alone on set*

Guess I should probably get some coffee. Not fully awake yet.

It was Hound Dog if I remember correctly, they had problems getting a distributor. I recall Dakota making a remark about how it was sure to get her an Oscar nomination

I suppose it depends on how graphic it is, I saw No Child of Mine (the drama with Brooke Kinsella) and whilst it wasn't graphic it certainly was disturbing.

Yes, but the male-gazey gratuitous tits-and ass kind of rape GoT does is quite different from a scene where rape is depicted as the atrocity it is.

+1

This comment is A+

Not to mention I'm 10000% positive that you could not do the amount of scenes with a fifteen year old actress you can with one who is of legal age.

fwiw, seconding the Clarke love (finally escaped the cave and saw the series last week.)
