People can't repost your posts unless they copy and paste them - and they can do that from anywhere, not just LJ. They can use Facebook connect and Twitter connect to post their own comments to those sites too and it links back to your post but they can only do that if your post is public.

You also have the option to turn off Facebook/Twitter connect on your LJ.

People CAN repost your LJ entries (even community entries) to their LJ or another community. There is a setting to turn the feature off but LJ frequently reactivates the feature without telling users and all of their content is at risk when that happens.

Not so far as I'm aware. LJ's got this stupid 'facebook connect' and that caused uproar when it came out, but everyone I know disabled the feature and carried on just the same as before.

AFAIK, you can only repost your own stuff or your own comments on public posts. You can't use it to repost other people's posts or comments on locked posts.

Wow, actually, I stand corrected. There's a 'share' button on public posts you can use if the LJ user hasn't turned the option off. Grr!

I wasn't being catty. I was being genuinely surprised, since LJ's been a shithole for the last couple of years. I figured everyone had jumped ship already.

I had the same reaction, tbh. I guess I'm kinda aware that people do but all of my fandoms are here now and no one I know uses lj anymore. I forget that isn't the same for all fandoms.

How to turn off the 'share' button completely

Go into your profile and hover your mouse over the word "profile" to get the drop down menu, then click "settings".

One of the first lines on that page is: "You can edit your account settings below. You may also want to edit your profile or your journal style".

Click on the link "journal style", then choose "customize your theme" (right half of the page, near the top).

There's a sub menu, on the left, on that page. Choose "entry text".

There's a line that says "Text to share this with a friend". Whatever text is in that box (mine said "share"), remove it and leave it blank, then save your changes.

That turned it off totally for me, including on my public posts.

OP, if you see this, this should give you the ability to stop people from sharing whatever you post on your LJ. I don't know if it'll affect what you post on comms, so maybe you can link back to your LJ instead of posting your stuff actually on the comms. I hope it helps.
