I've actually not seen much of a difference between the reviews I get on ff.net and the ones I get at AO3. Yeah, I get more "Yay, I liked this :D" reviews at ff.net but I also get more reviews period at ff.net, so it all evens out. There's not really much difference between a review like that and getting kudos, and neither one annoys me. (And actually a couple of my more recent fics got some really nice multi-paragraph reviews on ff.net, so they do exist.) And I don't get why some people get so annoyed at getting a lot of reviews that just say "I liked it." I think it's nice that they left a review at all, I'm not going to get upset because the review didn't live up to my standards or whatever, my reviewers don't owe me a power point presentation on why they liked my fic.

I have never minded a review that just said something like "I liked it" or "this was nice." They make me smile, knowing someone liked what I wrote. My problem is always the entitled jerks who tell me they liked it and now I need to write more and it should be about this. Or the ones who say "Why would you ever pair them?!" Like, dude, why did you click on it if it wasn't your cup of tea?

Same here. I love "I liked this" reviews, I love kudos - either one means someone cared enough to make an extra few clicks to tell you. At AO3 it's easier to do so, and you don't even have to think of something specific to say, which I like - in part because that means less of the stuff like ridiculous RPed responses that the secret mentioned, just because the reviewer wanted to "be creative". :P

I don't really get why people would complain about 'I like this' reviews?!

I felt really pleased when people would favourite/alert my stuff too! Either they like it enough to have it on their profile that they like it, or they liked it enough to want to be emailed about when it was updated, it was great!

The only bad reviews are cruelly negatives ones and nonsensical ones. Let's not put off people (like me) who are reluctant to review great fics, because they often feel intimidated by the author's talent.

That's exactly why I like the kudos feature on AO3 so much. You can go "I liked this!" without fearing that you're ticking someone off who won't appreciate it, or that your attempt to expand on what you liked doesn't make you sound like a babbling idiot to the author. :P

I mean, that's why I don't tend to leave reviews. Kudos, though? Yep.
