Sorry...that is?

A replicator!

(Anonymous) 2013-10-22 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you mean the replicators, or are you referring to Data

(Anonymous) 2013-10-22 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Replicators? Data? Touch-screen controls? If it's the touch-screen controls, I have good news for you.

Hell, even replicators are on their way, thanks to 3D printers. Are they exactly the same? No. But it's 2013, not 2313.

Please tell me it's the thing that gives you food?

(I haven't seen this show since I was a tot -- it was my mothers' epic crush on Picard back then.)

I thought you meant Data for a second.

We have 3-D printers. Star Trek is set in the 24th century. Give it time.

Yeah I want an android servant too. Unless you meant the drunken country and western singer, but we have plenty of those already.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-22 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually there is a company, right now, that's looking into 3D printing food (their exploring the idea of fabricating meat at the moment) after hearing about a certain challenge. That challenge? Oh, well, someone 3D printed a pizza.

That's right -- someone crushed and powdered ingredients to make an actual plain pizza with a 3D printer.

I'm personally still not over the fact we don't have flying cars.

I do NOT want the people who drive like morons to be able to take to the sky. And I don't care about jetpacks or food pills, but WHAR Robot Maid?

I too am sad that we don't have Datas yet. No home should be without one.

If you mean the food replicators, I agree - it'd be awesome to have them.

Give it time, OP. We are just on the edge of a 3D printing boom. This will be next.

I'm still miffed at the fact that we weren't living on the moon by the year 2000, so I hear you, anon.

OMG, this! If only i had a replicator - i would never have to cook again!!!!
*flails with joy*

Drive-thru is like a replicator. I didn't even have to tell the coffee lady my order this morning. She saved my file remembered me from the last time I was there. <3

While I too would love to have a replicator, the Star Trek technology I really wish we had is a medical tricorder. I'd never have to go through another uncomfortable and/or painful (not to mention expensive) medical test again!

IA. So much. Tbh, I've always been way more jealous over Star Trek's little labor-saving thingamobobs than their starships and starbases and photon torpedoes. ;)

Unrelated storytime: the last time I saw this screenshot, it was being used in a Cracked photomanip contest, "Scifi Technologies We Would Use Horribly" or somesuch, and they were replicating a dildo. This annoyed me, because as we all know, Data is fully functional and anatomically correct, thus there would be no need for a dildo in that situation.

This gives your secret an unintentionally hilarious context for me, and I am still giggling and felt the need to share. You're welcome. :D

Also, having a functional replicator would indeed be awesome.

I'm sure it's you Steve. You tell me it's not you, but I still think it's a test to see how certain I am of something I suspect. We just watched this episode on Saturday and talked about this thing.

I swear it's you man.
